    No - don't think that's a root vegetable

    No - it's a much more common one that that.

    The name is derived from a Middle English word which, surprisingly, is almost the vegetable's name in Scots.

    That's the one - so named as 'turn', because it looks like it's been turned a lathe, and 'nepe', which is the Middle English word for the vegetable.

    The two league teams in Sheffield are the "Blades" and the "Owls." Why would it have been more appropriate if their nick names were swapped?

    Sheffield Wednesday were the Blades when they formed and were renamed as Owls later when they moved to Owlerton in the north of Sheffield. Sheffield United were also the Blades and were from Owlerton first. Does that have sense?
