Can you all see where this is going? It's all part of my cunning plan. You'll all eventually become Large Hadron Collider junkies. I love it!!!

It's 66.6667% greater if you want to get really technical about it.

The beams are circulating as we speak, but no collisions at present. Some very interesting data presented at the Grenoble symposium last week. Possible evidence of the Higgs Boson, but too early to have any certainty

That would be the Tevatron in Illinois. Not a patch on ours!

Hasn't the Tevatron also found some possible evidence of Higgs? The race is on - don't let Europe down RHC! ;)

Well now Swarbs. I'm actually impressed with that observation. I always thought your posts were less vitriolic than the norm. Yes it had produced some data at similar energy levels. However, it's far less powerful than the LHC, and we should be able to focus on these levels with far more clarity than they can. Rolf Heuer reckons it could be the end of next tear before we have, as he describes it, "the Shakespearian to be or not to be moment". If they don't find it, it's back to square one for particle physics.

And of course the Tevatron gets closed in September so it'll all be down to the LHC after that.

It is going to be very interesting to see what happens if they find the evidence is against Higgs. Cos there doesn't appear to be any 'Plan B' to explain the Standard Model without it!

Btw, I studied A-level Physics, including a visit to ISIS, and had a Physics component in my BA which is why I (vaguely) know about all this stuff ;)

That's a funny BA with a physics module in it! What was your degree and where did you do it?
