Both Bobby Reid and Wes Burns have signed one year extensions.

Johnson clearly rates them even if some of our fans do not. Now let's stop the constant chipping and support them.

I'm happy with that - Reid's already a handy squad player and I personally think Burns has good potential.

As LJ says, we have to see some value from the academy and that means graduates making the first team grade and being important players for us. Well done to these two lads. Now make us proud.

Bit of a no brainer really to extend for a year. We've used 31 players so far this season but only 19 of them are ours currently, three of which are goalkeepers and another 3 are these two plus Zak Vyner. We're not gambling on offering them a long term contract so if they don't kick on next season they we can revaluate then but we still have a painfully thin squad so I would like to see players to come in first before we start letting players go, especially relative youngers

Red Robin, these are kids who are developing, and quite nicely too if both their recent form is anything to go by.

I feel like I'm getting in to you all the time but I simply cannot believe you have ever been around 'football' if you think that everyone who comes to us or comes out of the academy will be the finished product. Its so naive. Most players develop at the same pace as Reid and Burns, they're not all Wayne Rooneys!

There seems to be this desire amongst sections of our support who want local players to fail. Cole Skuse was a classic example, some fans simply could not understand the very important role he played and was largely slated within weeks of the following season from winning the fans player of the year. He's now a player Mick Mccarthy described as 'indispensable' and would be the choice as a DM for many top managers.

a massive fan of what he did for BCFC on and of the pitch.

Regards BR he is to lightweight need to beef up if he is to make it at this level or above, time and time again he is brushed aside by the opposition.

Regards WB he can run and run,but the end product is so poor, these are not youngs kids of 18 or 19 years, they are in the early twenties now.

Time to man up and show they have it at this level,if not the lower reaches of football will be their destination.

I do not think the city environment has been right for our young players, the team via management selection wise ... has been far to condensed ..last season there were opportunities, this season was classic early on VAST OPPORTUNITIES missed summer and first 26 games head in the sand and chasing points to survive ...we cannot easily say 3-5-2 cost us but IMO 80% sure ..had we won just 5 more games in that 26 W 9 D 7 L 10 we would have been able to play Burns Reid Vyner MORE OFTEN maybe as subs or rotated 1 at a time in starters ... likely have got the ones that got away? in January window and been sitting on a mid table position W 13 D 12 L 16 ...DOWN SIDE = SC STILL IN CHARGE?
the young players can only gain with game time, until they have had a run and failed dismally DO NOT KNO0CK THEM, THERE WAS DISSENT A WHILE BACK WHEN JB HAD A STICKY PATCH! ..... not from me though

Most players would not be expected to finish development till maybe 23 or 24.. and then they would still be raw.

Show some patience and maybe that would help us bring a few more kids through!

If thats the case you would surely be disappointed with the way he was slated by some of our fans during his time here.. Perhaps it would be better to consider how that felt when you're doing it.

They can both cut the mustard in league 1 but unproven. If Reid can start riding challenges and beef up a bit he should be good enough. I need to see more in Burns than pace although he has lit up games before.

Joe Bryan was too lightweight and didn't go past his man according to Red Robin end of season one in league one. He beefed up on the weights and become a key part last season. Started this season poor but now he's got someone good to play like Tomlin or Goldbourne behind him he's improved no end.
Like him Bobby Reid can bulk but will take time as too quick impedes the player, but what he does have is a good footballing brain and can improve as game time goes. Plus he's had more than one good game this year, so that was a naive comment.
Wes Burns is banging the goals in and has bags of pace, who given time will improve and could potentionally be one of those players tearing up the championship for another club then we will get comments saying "should never of gone, I always wanted to keep him" etc.
Trouble is fans are quick to jump on players backs home grown or not and slate them, bit like the Kodjia comments I've seen on here saying he needs 4-5 chances to score one goal. But at least he's getting chances, could be a lot worse if he needed only one chance but never getting them. To me Kodjia has the potential to be our next Andy Cole going for peanuts to become a player worth 7 million when that was top whack at the time in the prem.
One season is good but what happens if they improve? Hopefully we've got retaining rights.

Not comparing but George Best was a lightweight and was one of the top players ever, IMO...

Personally, I think that both Bobby and Wes will turn out to be quality players for us. Wes especially is SERIOUSLY QUICK however, he has only played a handful of games for us, he needs to play lots and get battle hardened, you know just like Harry Kane, Jermaine Defo and so many others.

Craft can be learned. Everyone thought Ronaldo was a bit of a joke when he first came to United, well they are not laughing now. BTW, I am not saying that Wes is the new Ronaldo (wouldn't that be something) but I think he can be a VERY dangerous player for us, especially as in JK, we have someone who can keep up with him...

I just think it's crazy, not so long ago we were all moaning that we had no real home grown players coming through, now we have got a flow of quality joining our ranks (5 0r6) and people are bickering about their weight, their skill levels, their consistency, for god sake can't people see how our club is developing, home grown talent coming through, better quality senior players prepared to join us, hopefully continued playing at a higher level, scouting and management leadership improving, stadium development beyond belief.

Give it a break, stop the critique, admit we are on the way up, I'm feeling better now than I have for an age, we as fans are never happy, we could be shouting our mouths off about being in the 4th tier..
