We can't meet them or any other English side in groups so it would be interesting but we've a qf to focus on.

Leicester have cl to look forward to but need 3 more wins.

When we won the CL in 2005, we got Chelsea in the groups in 06 because we had 5 teams and we were a "freebie" so could be drawn against anyone. Don't know how they'd do it but if we won the CL and we got 5 teams in CL, then we might be a "freebie" and be able to draw anyone.

That'd be fun. Must look it up.

That was only because we weren't associated to any nation including England. Won't happen again

Yeah as they ****ed up who not thinking about holder qualifying through league. I'm assuming as they changed it to say the holder automatically goes in they've sorted out the nationality issue on it as well but knowing UEFA, wouldn't surprise me if they had some weird rules around what happens now if you get 5 teams from one nation.

I believe they have. Wasn't there five Spanish teams in CL this year?

They changed the rule after us, cause as you said they hadn't conceived the idea that the winner might not actually qualify through the league. The rule is that if the winner finishes outside their leagues CL spots (top4 etc) they take what would have been the lowest CL qualifying spot (4th for England), and the team finishing 4th is dropped to the Europa League.

The CL spot for the Europa winner is taken regardless of the clubs nationality. Its a space reserved space for the winning club. Although I assume if we were to win it and finish in the EL positions, the EL spot would move down to the next club in the league.

Van Gaal has had a complete [HASHTAG]#meltdown[/HASHTAG]

Louis van Gaal says he does not regret turning down Tottenham in the summer of 2014, saying Manchester United "are a bigger club".

United lie 12 points adrift of second-placed Spurs after suffering a 3-0 defeat at White Hart Lane on Sunday.

"The challenge was bigger for me at Manchester United and shall always be bigger," said Van Gaal, whose side are fifth.

"I'm sorry for Tottenham but Manchester United is a bigger club."

Despite United's troubles this season, Van Gaal, who held talks with Spurs about becoming manager, believes United are "still ahead" of the London club.

He also turned on the reporter who had asked him whether he had regretted choosing United over Spurs.

"It is a little bit pathetic you asked that," the 64-year-old Dutchman said. "It's easy to ask that but, ok, you enjoy yourself."

so they've not bought that it doesn't matter cos utd are a bigger club argument then?

shocked at that as when i was their age thats all they had going for them... its come full circle for utd.

Saturday: City win to extend lead over Utd to 4pts.
Sunday: Spurs spank Utd.
Tuesday. City make it though to the CL semis?
Wednesday: West ham dump Utd out of the cup in last ever cup tie at Upton Park??
Thursday: Pool get through to the EL semis???

2/5ths of the way to the week from hell for Utd.

Were this to happen, the meltdown from some of their more "flat earth" fans would be epic!!

It would not be a great week for utd fans but they would have...

Thursday: LVG gets sacked to look forward too..

if they go out of cup he is done IMO.

Did I not read reports last week that he's been assured of his position because bobby Charlton and Fergie insist on Giggs taking over in a year?

He has been allowed to organise the pre season etc...

Na, the Dutchman will last as long as their CL qualification hopes.

Waiting until all hope is gone to react is letting the results make the decision for you. Shows how weak Man Utd are. We sacked Rodgers after a draw, and the same decision would have been made even if we'd won.

Same thing with Everton, Martinez needs dumping but they're so [HASHTAG]#desperate[/HASHTAG] for a cup they'll play waitnsee until that option is dead.
