I cite Leeds and Rotherham away in defence of last night.

Dave getting sent off didn't really help but we'd already lost the game well before that. We now have to win our remaining games to have any chance of automatic promotion and, big hint, it isn't going to happen. This was our best chance to get straight back up given the quality in the side but I fear we've blown it. Our squad will be dismantled, Bruce will leave (not a great loss) and we will miss out on the money available. Then of course, Newcastle, Villa and whichever other team will come down and probably dominate the top two, making it even harder next season.

It'd be interesting to know, how often do you change your tactics to suit the task at hand? There's a debate on our board at the minute that we are just blindly playing the same team over and over because it features big names and we sit and hope it does the job. There doesn't seem to be any tactical nous behind it, so the same team that panned a poor Bristol side then went out against Derby, who are a very different prospect indeed. I only ask because you seem to have a settled side and your tactic seems to work against everybody, but do you set up to hit bigger teams like Chelsea and Arsenal on the break away from home or do you just play the same team and just say "same as last week"? Many users are saying it was wrong of Bruce to keep the same side (in fact in his post match he said he probably should've changed it) while others think he shouldn't have changed a side that won 4-0.
Are you saying it is poor tactical nous from us that we keep on beating other teams?

What do you say about the teams that we beat with the same players in the same formation - that they are very tactically sound in their losses <laugh>

No, not at all. Just that it doesn't seem to work for us.

Ranieri is superb in every way. His man management of player, how he deflects the pressure, how he handles the media, but most importantly he tactical nous
he has a plan b,c,d,e and f. Pearson barely had a plan B
We are blessed to have such a wonderful manager at the helm.

Agree, we'd be doing well under Pearson, but not top.

Pearson still deserves a share of this achievement, whether we win it or not.

... Ranieri has made several tactical changes throughout the season but more from the bench than to actually start games (certainly over the second half of the season) ... but that is probably because we have hit on a formula that is very effective ... one of the key's to our success has been that we have a very settled starting XI, subject to injuries / suspensions (and we haven't had many of those) .. but we have had to adapt no doubt ... teams are now setting up to try and negate our threats first and foremost ... Ranieri seems to be very astute at recognising what needs tweaking / shuffling during games and then having the players exercise his instructions ...

We don't change the personnel but we change tactics a lot.

If we're playing against the big teams then the fullbacks sit in and then we play something like this;

Simpson Huth Morgan Fuchs
Albrighton Drinkwater Kante
Okazaki
Vardy
*Mahrez just does what he wants.

If we're playing against a side we should beat;

Huth Morgan
Simpson--------Drinkwater---------Fuchs
Kante**
Mahrez------Okazaki-------Albrighton
Vardy
**Kante is everywhere and it's his job to get the ball and pass it to Drinkwater who plays as a quarterback.

Our tactics have changed alot over the season but more due to the opposition finally showing us respect

At the start everyone was just taking us on head to head and losing 3-2. Now teams are sitting in trying to hit us on the counter as they scared to go toe to toe hence why we keep winning 1-0

Ranieri has been superb with his tactics. Everyone single player though brings something everyweek. If they have a bad game there still working their bollocks off which is one of the main reasons why we dont lose often. Everyone gives everything every week

See we had it (and I seem to remember teams doing it to you when I was at uni down there) where teams come to us and just park the bus. We just don't break them down, we rely on the fact that because we have have big name players in our team somehow they'll magically discard MK Dons or Forest or whoever because they aren't as good.

It isn't that our lads don't want to win, it's that when we go behind (which to our credit happens very rarely, or at least it did do) we have no clue how to adapt to a game. Bruce just ploughs on regardless.

To be fair, if you're only in a playoff position in the Championship, and Drinkwater, Kante, Mahrez and Vardy aren't good enough to get in your side, then what more can Bruce do?

agreed. Very good option for a 5 man midfield line up. Might go to a promoted team like Middlesbrough? Or something ridiculous like man city to play in cups and boost heir home-grown quota!?
