Dele Alli - 7 goals, 9 assists. Christian Eriksen - 6 goals, 10 assists. Coutinho - 7 goals, 5 assists. I'll stick with Alli and Eriksen, thanks.
If you want stats... Alli - 16 goals or assists this season for Tottenham - 43 games - 0.38 goals or assists per game. Eriksen - 18 goals or assists this season for Tottenham - 41 games - 0.43 goals or assists per game. Coutinho - 15 goals or assists this season - 33 games = 0.45 goals or assists per game. This is without taking into account that Coutinho has had a decent injury, has dealt with a change of managers and plays for an awful Liverpool side.
He makes less assists and goals per season and plays less. Someone might play in one game, score a hat-trick and then not play again. That doesn't make them better than everyone else, but it would make them better in the stats that you're using.
Fair point there. Stats though as a whole now distort facts ! The only stats I go on are PLD W D L F A GD PTS.
I didn't say that he was injury-prone. I said that he was more so than they players that he's being compared to. That being said, he does tend to miss quite a lot of games, generally speaking. Played a lot last season, but he's had a lot of seasons where he's featured in relatively few games. No idea how much of that is down to injury or team selection, though.
So I should want someone more prone to injury over our two? Who also doesn't track back for his side and would probably cry of exhaustion in just a weeks worth of Poch's regime. The sheer fact he plays for an average Liverpool team is exactly the reason people think he's better than what he is. Any half decent Liverpool player gets over hyped by their fans and media, I mean Jordan Henderson got on the cover of FIFA 16 which says it all. Look at what Arnautovic is doing at Stoke, or Wijnaldum at Newcastle, Sigurdsson at Swansea, look at Mahrez at you guys, on paper you'd probably say the Pool squad is better than Leicester's regardless of the season you're having and yet Coutinho statistically isn't really outshining them when he's supposedly much better. There are plenty of good attacking midfielders in this league who are more than capable of staking a claim as being one of the best, the problem is that half of them don't get the recognition they deserve, purely because the media noshes off any Pool player at any opportune moment they get. But if you want more stats, since Eriksen joined Spurs (Summer 2013): Eriksen has 21 assists to Coutinho's 17. Eriksen has 23 goals to Coutinho's 17. Coutinho had 6 months on him as he joined in January and I think got 3 goals and 6 assists. Like I said, I'm not saying he's a bad player but I don't buy the hype that he's as good as what people want to make you believe.
Regarding Daniel Sturridge... Sturridge - 8 goals or assists this season - 15 games played - 0.53 goals or assists per game. Vardy - 25 goals or assists this season - 33 games played - 0.75 goals or assists per game. Kane - 30 goals or assists this season - 44 games played - 0.68 goals or assists per game.
The opening title , as quite a few of your fellow supporters seem unable to accept the possibility of us actually winning the league ?
I don't think that anyone rejects the possibility of you winning the league. The opposite is true, in fact.
I would say that it shows that Vardy has been the most creative/clinical English striker this season and that Sturridge is not some sort of 'scores every game but is injured for the next' striker like the media portray him to be.
Despite Vardy having scored and assisted less than Kane and having played a more reasonable number of games? Kane played in the U21 Euros in the summer, got very little time off and has had to play in Europe, while Vardy hasn't. He's still been involved in more goals and scored more, despite us never being able to rest him. You can take what you want from stats. They're largely irrelevant, as BFM has suggested.
I mean, you can think what you like, but how can you ignore those stats? They clearly show that Coutinho has been amongst the goals more often than Eriksen ad Alli with regards to playing time and that Vardy has been far more clinical/creative than Kane and Sturridge. You can say that stats are largely irrelevant. Which they are, on the most part. But when discussing the influence a player has on goals then this is the only definitive one you can look at.
