We've probably all had a go at our top 11 players but what about the also-rans, the players who always put in a decent shift but never got their own song? Just a few I was pondering on; Peter Hucker Steve Burke Danny Maddix Ian Holloway Gary Waddock Andy Impey - ok, he did have his own song! Gavin Peacock Paul Furlong Gareth Ainsworth Who else did you have a soft spot for even though they may not have been exactly world class?
Me too. I went to school with Warren. On the pitch he quietly went about his business. Calmness personified.
Frank Clarke Mick Leach ( I think he qualifies for this) Mick Ferguson Gary Micklewhite (should be in folklore as the man who won us the FA Cup!) Gary Waddock (not sure if he qualifies) Paul Goddard (Thank you Docherty!) Chris Day Steve Palmer Darren Peacock (not sure if he qualifies) Marcus Bignot I expect others will come to me when the thread is finished! Paul Furlong didn't have his own song? Are you sure?
Tony Hazell, Bob Hazell, Paul Goddard, Wayne Fereday, Shaun Derry and that Nielsen guy even though he left us in the lurch
David Bardsley. Ian Stewart Simon Barker Ian Holloway Mark Bircham We could be here all night. Edit - Olly has already been mentioned and I think we had a song about Bircham and his hair.
I used to have an ongoing debate at the time with my Chelsea supporting brother as to who was the better player - Ian Stewart or Pat Nevin. That was when Ian Stewart was at his peak (which didn't last long in reality).
I meant any player who didn't make it into your own top 11. If Furs was in your top 11 then he's certainly not an also-ran. Not sure if he had his own song though but please remind us all if he did. Shaun Derry had his own song to the tune of Kumbaya. I similarly didn't include "He's here, he's there, he's everyf*ckin'where, Matthew Rose, Matthew Rose!"
Mickey Leach Keith Sanderson Mick Kelly Peter Ramage Gino Sure there are others that will spring to mind later.....
He certainly did have his own song. Nothing unique, but " Furlong, there's only one Furlong". Probably heard at it's loudest at the Oldham play off game. It was rather loud at Colchester on the last league match game of that season though!
