We can agree, Beth. Your opinions are highly respected on this board. My view for what it's worth - mod's powers to censor or ban are always a last resort
Silly ccomments? Why because they upset the politically correct among us? We are at war and while not every Muslim is a terrorist, far from it, just about every terrorist that will want to harm me and mine because I don't believe what they do is likely to be a Muslim. I believe Islam is the most dangerous and intolerant religion of the present day. I have every right to express that opinion and goldie has every right to express his. Plus, he certainly doesn't fall out with everyone who disagrees with him, rather he simply debates his point of view.
Please Goldy get off this idea of Mod powers. I have not used any mod powers on this thread or against you or anyone else on this thread... no one has been reported or censored. Using mods powers as a last resort is the fundamental tenet of this board ... As is the board being used as a platform for free speech. And I will continue to use this forum as a platform for my views too.
It would be wrong for the thread to become anti-muslim, but it is legitimate in my view to be anti-Islam - the religion is the problem it seems to me. These fanatics are going round killing people because they don't share the same bizarre beliefs. Another atrocity has occurred today in Lahore where a suicide bomber has killed dozens in a park filled with mainly Christian families. If I were a Muslim and saw what was being done in the name of Islam, I would renounce the religion.
Another point is that it is also a war between different Islamic sects too... Shi'ites vs Sunnis. It is very complex
For what my opinion is worth, all religion is ****e and just another way of controlling the masses....... Muslim, Christian, Hindu, Sikh and Jew.......all playing a game of 'my god is better than your God' while their religious leaders become fat off the money paid by the idiots who believe their tripe. To quote the Dead Kennedys... 'They all claim to know the answer, when they don't even know the question They're just a bunch of liars, they just want your money They just want your consciousness'
Charming lyrics. I do somewhat agree with your sentiment, which at times places me at odds, and gets me into hot water with my Catholic raised wife who teaches rather liberal Catechism classes for the kids of the local parish. She did this in part because our own kids were attending classes and she wanted provide them with a more modern approach to religion and life, also to save them from the regular old maids, who followed very conservative teaching methods. Apparently the kids love her. On a personal level I will always favour the power of family and community over organized religion, although I do respect those who choose to follow that path. DEAD KENNEDYS LYRICS "Religious Vomit" [Chorus] All religions make me wanna throw up All religions make me sick All religions make me wanna throw up All religions suck They all claim that they have the truth That'll set you free Just give 'em all your money and they'll set you free Free for a fee They all claim that they have 'the Answer' When they don't even know the Question They're just a bunch of liars They just want your money They just want your consciousness [Chorus] All religions suck All religions make me wanna throw up All religions suck All religions make me wanna BLEAH They really make me sick They really make me sick They really make me sick They really make me sick They really make me sick They really make me ILL http://www.azlyrics.com/lyrics/deadkennedys/religiousvomit.html
Right you lot Leave my religion alone My invisible friend is the only true invisible friend And as for those bloody muslims
They take even less time to sing.......but along with most of the stuff Jello Biafra and DK wrote.......he's got a point ✊
I think it's also well worth discussing the astounding failure of American foreign policy and how they are never held responsible for this by western leaders (except Russia) Is it only a coincidence that the Americans who once funded and armed the Tailban now have spent literally billions fighting them, who only two years ago funded the very same fundamentalist troops they are now bombing in Syria and who at very stages have funded all sides in the Libia and Tunisia conflicts. I'm not one for conspiracy theories but either the Americans are beyond stupid or they are doing a magnificent job at propping up their arms industry and hence their economy. I'd encourage all to look beyond Sky TV and the BBC and look at the more neutral Al Jazerra (English).
Take a day out and yet another thread descends into a 'lets bash anyone that has any profession of faith' thread. I thought this one was a thread in sympathy and support of the victims of the Brussels attacks. If I'm wrong on that, then fair play. But I've said before, and will say again: IS are not interested in Islam as a faith, any more than the murderers in Northern Ireland were interested in being good Catholics or Protestants. These murders are not being done as a dictate by their religion or their god. Religion is man made, whereas faith is not. Anyone who really has any faith abhors this as much as anyone - maybe more, in fact, because their faith is being slandered by these murderers. Religion is a box we put our belief inside, the way we define it and make it visible to the rest of the world. US Televangelists put it in a shiny box made of gold and jewels, and labelled with salvation all over it. IS hang their hat on Islam by building a box that resembles either a jail or an IED. People who have true faith - of any creed - will keep their faith in a transparent bag - very simple and fragile, hiding nothing. If you want to kick these religious people who dress their beliefs in a fancy box or a hidden bomb, then fine. But please remember that this is a different thing to faith, and that by not recognising that, you run the risk of being as intolerant and hate-filled as the people you condemn. And then you've won nothing.
I don't get it when people talk about 'faith' as if it is something admirable and worthy of respect. What is faith if not merely belief in something which can't be proved?
But you do understand the difference between faith and religion, though? Because when we are talking about Brussels, Paris. London, 9/11 etc, it's an important distinction to make, starting from the base that the religion people build that makes them decide to do these things is different from the faith people have that leads them to hate this violence that they get tagged with by association.
I can't disprove the existence of 'The Loch Ness Monster' or 'The Yeti' but I'm pretty sure they are made up fantasies.......
So are you saying that everybody who professes belief and faith are wrong and faking it if they are doing it in the context of an organised 'man made' religion? I'm not sure I understand.
