What's actually quite nauseating is the hysterically over-the-top reaction on here to his actions.

He was in the wrong.......badly.
The girl was under-age, but was not raped or, as far as I can tell, forced to do anything against her will.

She was star struck and probably influenced by the ridiculous celebrity culture that is prevalent these days.
He's not a rapist and nor has he "fiddled" or worse with very young children.

He's been made an example of and I suspect that he may get a shorter sentence if he appeals.

I'm not excusing his actions and I find him a repulsive twat. I just feel that the sentence was over-the-top.
Very rare I agree with your non-football posts Col, but on this I do.

Prime example of what I mean. You clearly think that as long as he didn't touch a toddler, we should go easy on him. Sorry, but no. He got the very least his crime deserved and I feel no pity for him whatsoever.

probably the most accurate statement on here of which we would all agree
"She was star struck and probably influenced by the ridiculous celebrity culture that is prevalent these days".

Exactly Ninj...it is also why the law must be allowed to take its course.
I think everyone on here with children has said essentially the same thing...kids from about 12 years old onwards think the know it all, dress beyond they years, fancy their heroes...think they can cope with an adult relationship...think they are adult...very very very few of them can. (I had enough trouble until I was in my thirties)

I know that this girl was an excited youngster, who though Johnson fancied her and never thought he was using her.
He used and betrayed her innocence, she will not be the same again.
He knew exactly what he was doing, he was using his "celebrity power" to get sexual gratification without a single care in the world.
Her innocence has been taken from her, her name/reputation/childhood has been ruined.

The law is asking for recompense for that (in kind)

Don't tell me what I think Chaz.

Where have I said that we should "go easy" on him? I certainly have no pity for him either.

OKay...we all agree we have no pity for him at all.

Lets all agree on that point .....and finish the debate on that note of agreement

Just going by what you've said all along. The child wasn't a baby, they didn't actually have sex, the sentence was too harsh for what he did, she knew what was going on... All things you've posted. If you don't think these things, why post them?

If you don't want people to take your words in context, then maybe a little more clarity and thought in your posts would prevent any 'misunderstandings'. And maybe if you didn't try and invent mitigating circumstances for this child molester, then maybe people wouldn't pick you up on it.

On the flip side, some are reacting as if he has had sex with a baby.
I know what happened through the reporting. I can't say the same of those who clearly believe there was no child molestation involved here.

Well only two of the four things you listed are opinions and the other two are facts. They're opinions I go along with. He's obviously done wrong but he's not Fred West.

There you go again. Everyone knows now what happened and have their own views. Nobody says there wasn't "child molestation". Just some people can look at it objectively and take a different view to yours of "hang the nonce".

What I find amazing is that it's a beautiful day, a public holiday, I have spent and hour on a beach and driven 250 miles, I sit down with a cup of tea and have a quick look on here, and this thread is still going strong. I'm off out again now while the weather lasts. I think Adam Johnson has had more than enough attention for a lifetime.

Must admit that in all honesty I really couldn't care less about this bloke, what is he...an invented celebrity by the red top papers because he can kick a ball, who has got more money than sense and has an over inflated ego........justice has been seen to be done, i don't care if the sentence is deemed too harsh or not enough.......

" You clearly think that as long as he didn't touch a toddler, we should go easy on him." This is what you wrote.

How do you know this is what I think? I've never said we should go easy on him. He deserves punishment.

I just find your reaction to his offences totally over-the-top and slightly hysterical. I also think that the sentence is too long for this offence.
Let's agree to differ eh?

What you said is that 6 years is too much, and you reckon half that would have been fairer on him. I cannot disagree with you more.

If you're happy with that, then I guess there's no more discussion to be made. I just hope this abhorrent criminal behaviour never goes anywhere near anyone you know, I really do. Because I'm sure your stance would be sorely tested if it did.

Last word on it.

Mods, as I started the thread, can I please request that it be closed now?

Must admit Chaz I'm somewhat bemused as to why you are taking such a hard line on this, unless off course someone close to you has been subjected to this kind of behaviour in which case I'm sure you would have everyones sympathy. Others have expressed their views on the subject and you should whilst not necessarily agreeing with them accept them as everyone has an opinion, yours is not the only accepted opinion here........

For the time being we'll leave this thread open and in time it'll drop down the list as posters reply to other threads, we try not to go in for censorship.....

That is a great response, Tram.

I guess anything that make ou feel you've scored points would be a 'great response'.

Time to change my signature, I guess...

I believe the offences he has been convicted of only allow for a 10% reduction and good behaviour isn't assessed, so it should be at least 5 1/2 years
That's jibberish , all sentences are done at the 2 3rds stage parole eligabily at the half way point.
