Eu citizens working to keep this country great ? Do me a favour! Don't know how you earn a living but to me as a chippie working on council estates in London I've seen it all. The nhs is falling apart with foreigners too lazy to keep up to the old standards, lazy bastards that government like on a lower wage. My England that I remember has gone thanks to mummy and daddies money putting thick pricks into Oxford and Cambridge

It's a slightly warped view of the world if the country has gone because of "thick" Oxbridge graduates. You know it's quite difficult to get in no matter who your parents are?

Not warped at all, I believe Oxford and Cambridge are the breeding ground for politicians and there's the proof .

Number of people I know - huge amount.
Number of people I know who went to University - also a huge amount, probably in the thousands, because of kids of friends who grew up and went.
Number of people I know who went to Oxford or Cambridge - 2. One about twenty years ago, and one about four years ago.

I have more friends currently at Portsmouth University than that.

Yes. A lot of politicians come from there. Partly because you have to be bloody bright to be a top politician, regardless of how they may look at times in the public eye.

Bad news for all those expecting to live in Fortress UK (or possibly Fortress England and Wales) post a Brexit. Turns out we can't even implement the considerable border protection powers we have now, which has nothing to do with the EU or Schengen. 50% of lorries entering the UK are not searched. 50 illegals found in Canterbury yesterday getting off one. How many through undetected? And once we catch them and say they should be deported, either as criminals or illegal entries, only 60% actually get sent away. 34,000 deportation flights cancelled in an 18 month period, due to 'lack of staff'.

not really a shock considering the guesstimates of illegals in this country could be over a million. If you turn a blind eye, or haven't got the will to prevent it, it will continue, in or out of the EU

What's the authority for this, Stan? Not that I doubt it, but the 60% figure is quite shocking.

I see Britain has been castigated by the Council of Europe's Latvian human right's commissioner for using "the language of criminalisation". Calling illegal immigrants "illegal immigrants" is dehumanising apparently. We should be calling them "irregular migrants."

This is the same Latvia who citizens fought in great numbers for the Waffen SS and were involved to a substantial degree in the Holocaust and eradication of the Jews in their country

It was in the news this morning, along with the figures about only half the trucks being checked.

    http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-35888188

For ****s sake Goldie, accusing entire nations of being in the SS isn't going to contribute to any kind of civilised discussion. What about the 20,000 armed partisans who fought both the Nazis and Soviets, supported by 80,000 others. No country has an entirely blame free past, including ours.

The figures on EU and non EU net immigration are broadly similar: EU 172,000, non-EU 191,000 (yr end Sept 2015).

Students make up by far the largest and fastest growing group among non-EU migrants. Steps are being taken by government to introduce further restrictions on further education. They bring in money and most students are expected in the future to leave the UK.

So far as EU migration is concerned, the problem started when the Eastern European countries entered the EU, and was later compounded by the accession of Romania and Bulgaria. These are countries have standards of living for their citizens vastly inferior to our own. There are some fabulous young people who have come over from these countries to work here, some in seasonal work. But integration has been a problem in some area like Lincolnshire because immigration has happened in such large numbers. And because we can't control who comes in, there are also numbers that have come to take benefits and the other advantages that this country has to offer. I don't share your optimism, Tooting, that they will eventually go home to a bleak life in Romania. We need to take back control imo.

Latvian human rights records over the last 100 years had been abysmal, so I resent being lectured. What part did we play in the holocaust then, Stan?

The Home Office is completely in the dark as to which visiting students have and which have not gone back. A good argument for compulsory identification cards. A number of removals were delayed by legal challenges. If we leave the EU, we will surely repeal the Human Rights Act and bring back fairness and common sense

What is wrong with you? You want to pick a fight on everything nowadays. I could refer you to multiple instances of British direct role in massacres in the twentieth century. As for the holocaust, the British and Americans were aware of large scale slaughter from 1941, and the details of the camps from 1942, yet refused to bomb the gas chambers, even when the Luftwaffe was moribund. I really don't know why.

But that is completely irrelevant to this thread.

I fear for your response to a 'remain' vote.

I was a staunch, albeit fairly silent, 'leave' supporter but even though I still believe there are some great reasons for leaving, the arguments always seem to be put across terribly in public.

Whose picking a fight? I refer to Latvia's shameful role in the holocaust, and you tell me the British and American's were to blame for not bombing gas chambers. With that degree of self-flaggelation Stan, you're gonna get blood all over your carpet!

Ex head of MI6, Sir Richard Dearlove has said that a Brexit could make Britain more secure.
He revealed that our security services give far more tip offs than they receive. "Britain is Europe's leader in intelligence and security matters and gives much more than it gets in return" he said.
He argues that leaving the EU might protect Britain by freeing us to throw out whoever we want and giving us more control on immigration.

It's not being helped by the fact that Farage and Evans seem to be intent on meeting for a duel at dawn

Teresa May should be hauled up before the home affairs committee to explain when she will discharge her duties as Home Secretary to properly resource and implement the decisions made by the courts of the UK or follow the Honorable example of IDS & resign.

We had a Portuguese truck turn up at work about a month ago to collect a shipment, when the driver opened the curtains 4 or 5 men jumped out and ran off. The police didn't want to know, said it was kids messing around.
