I used to drink Dryboroughs Heavy when I was living in Scotland (1970's) and followed it south as far as Lincolnshire, haven't heard or seen of it since, has anyone?
Was it Younger's Tartan that was all the rage in my youth - I'd probably hate it now, as I've really developed a taste for real ale and especially the lighter coloured varieties..
No mate it wasn't Tartan, definitely called Dryboroughs, got a photo of me outside a pub called the "River Don" in or around the Aberdeen area with a Dryboroughs sign outside. Seem to remember being asked if I wanted Light or Heavy, and a half? Confused I said just a pint of heavy why would I want another half? The half turned out to be a Whiskey?!?!
Yes, that would be right and yes I used to drink heavy, but opted out of the 'hauf'. I still am a 'Dons' fan and was gutted to see they lost ot Motherwell on Saturday!!!
There's either a tie up between the two breweries or some dodgy plagiarism going on! Bullard's is/was on Westwick St, just behind St Benedict's, for those too young to know It's now very trendy flats, hence the is/was above. please log in to view this image
HMMMM - I wonder???? Yes, I did a history tour of Norwich pubs/breweries last year and it's quite a history of Bullards. It had been revived by Redwell Brewery and if you get a chance, you should try it!!! PS - Would anyone be interested in doing the tour if we can get 10 or more fans interested??? I think the cost of the guide is approximately £40!!
Very similar, Dryboroughs was a Edinburgh Brewer apparently. Will have to research to see if there's a link but I never saw the Scottish beer down here which is a bit odd as the scots flock to Yarmouth for their hol's?
The majority of Leicestershire flood into north Norfolk all through the summer (we're rammed with static caravan parks / camp sites around here, as you probably know) Depending on how things pan out, gulp, I shan't be adorned in too much green and yellow until they've all boogied off back whence they came to polish their trophy!
Used to go and watch the "Dons" quite a bit, remember a game against Celtic when I got on the wrong bus, very scary especially when they found out I was English. Bus driver through me off pretty sharpish. Was living with a beautiful Scottish redhead in a village called Pitmedden, very happy time.
Shame on you Cromer.....ALWAYS wear your colours. When I venture into Suffolk my scarf is always on show in the back window of the car!
Had a look at the Bullards history and theres no mention of any link to Drybroughs. Very similar looking emblem though!
All signs in those days were done using carved potato stamps, so when a really big one came along they were used for multiple signs and businesses. Bah!
Has anyone else tied this http://www.thornbridgebrewery.co.uk/product.php?s=jaipur?? Needs to be handled with care, as 5.9% abv and it's easy to get p1553d very quickly if not careful. The Reindeer on Dereham Road usually has it on (£4.20 a pint, or occasionally you can get it in Wetherspoons at <£3 a pint!!)
