No ofh, the clue is the fact that a substantial fee (for those days) was paid for him.The only full back I can think of that fits the bill is Colin Meldrum. He only played in Div 3 and 4 throughout his league career which is unusual. Maybe.

No - another clue - the player in question had the same surname as a former Chancellor of the Exchequer - superhorns would see him as a hero!

Norman Lawson it was, signed in 1960 from Swansea (I see where you're coming from) at a "4-figure fee". He did not play any League games, only in the League Cup (first season of this competition) in 1960 and was let go in 1961! The equivalent maybe of signing a player for £500,000 today and not playing him. Or in Steven Berghuis's case paying a lot more (but at least he has played in the League)!

I've got to give you that yorkie. But can you tell me what the Works was originally constructed for before it was either producing aircraft in the war or mending buses afterwards?

The site had originally been bought for the Northern line extension to Bushey Heath, as part of the 1930s New Works Programme. Construction of the railway extension was underway and the depot was partially complete at the outbreak of World War II.
