The only trouble I see with that is he made it very clear that he didn't want to come to the UK - nothing worse than having an unhappy keeper between the sticks, especially as we hope to make improvements in the outfield. Shame to undo any improvement in attack with a 'poor' keeper.
I though it was just that he didn't want to leave Real, nothing to do with the UK. If they tell him he's out then there won't be much he can do so he'll have to choose a different club from somewhere. Forster could be another good shout tho'
It would be interesting to see if Valdes got a chance if Van Gaal and De Gea leave in the summer. Proven talent but with few matches in the past year and being away on loan in a poor league before he comes back (if he comes back) may have a detrimental effect.
Well he signed a contract with us no problem, but then claimed to be relieved when the move broke down as he wanted to stay with Real. Whether that was a genuine sentiment or just an effort to ingratiate himself with Real's fans is anyone's guess.
I would be quite happy to stick with Romero for now and see how Joel Perriera progresses, he is a very good young keeper who commands his area well, is good with his feet, catches rather than punches and is very quick off his line if he spots a situation building.
But if we build some momentum with new attacking players and a new manager the last thing we want is to lose matches because of a mediocre keeper.....
If he had to do as much work as de Gea then yes, it would be a problem but with better players in front of him he shouldn't have to. As much as I think de Gea is a fantastic keeper I really don't want him to have to prove it game after game.
Let's have a whip round for his plane ticket. He'll have to fly economy though, he's not worth a premium, business or first class ticket.
Shove him in a packing crate and FedEx him. If you buy him a plane ticket he'll probably fumble in on the way to the airport
