Total shock, loved the guy, brilliant at reinventing himself, amazing entertainer, we won't see his like again sadly RIP David, God Bless
Quite a few differing opinions out there (from 2003):- "A question i have always asked also. There is no mention in any of his interviews/books. I know he played as a kid for a local team. Have a picture here from season 1957-58. I would attach it but not sure how. If anyone knows how to do it,please advise." "well he is obviously a queens park rangers boy...as evidenced by that bitchin on hunky dory number a clear lament to missing out on the championship by one point to a team with no such flair as the hoops of west london. "could a bin me" oh the bitter taste of defeat "like no taste at all" ...the weekend was indeed an "all time low" for bowie n the rest of us! what a dog!" "He started off supporting Crystal Palace as a kid... last I heard was Chelsea. He's last comment about football was: "Everything stops in England for bloody football!"' "he admitted at Hammersmith last year to knowing nothing about footie at all!" "The only connection I made is I read somewhere that on a tour around Europe in 1977 0r 78 Bowie booked all his touring party in under the names of the then players of the Arsenal football team. Jennings, Rice, Nelson, Brady and so forth. I dont think he likes football but on the other hand he has been to many sporting contests. I hope it is Arsenal." http://www.network54.com/Forum/8980/thread/1066333853/Bowie football team- David was a member of The Burnt Ash Juniors Football Team in 1957/58 please log in to view this image please log in to view this image http://www.bowiewonderworld.com/faq.htm#p19
I'm not usually overly emotional, unless it's family and friends. I've had to deal with some challenging stuff in my life. Both personally and professionally. ( Of course I'm sure we all have. ) The passing of a celebrity who has bought me entertainment or laughter is a sad affair, I'm not too sure why. It's not as if we actually know them. Most of the time it brings about a feeling of nostalgia and happiness and it's just a brief period of forlornness. Their music, films etc still exist for us to enjoy regardless. Today was different though. It was a day when I felt a shift in my life. I woke up this morning and my wife was waiting at the bottom of the stairs. As I was about to descend them she looked up at me and said '' David Bowie has died. '' '' I was going to wake you and tell you, but didn't want to disturb you as you'd been on nights.'' She and my two daughters realised how much I loved Bowie. They also did as I would often play his albums in the car, in the house and on my guitar and knew every single song of his. I was stunned, but then again there was something lurking in the back of my subconsciousness mind that said I shouldn't be. On January the 8th, it was Bowie's 69th birthday and a new album was unveiled. I searched his web site to see if there was going to be a tour to go with it. No there wasn't. There was also no interview, no promotion or no pictures. Just as there wasn't in 2013 for the release of his album 'The Next Day.' My one regret now is that I never got to see him live. The only time I saw him was when I worked as the fireman at St. Martins Theatre in the West End where the 'Mousetrap' is showing. It was 1992 and as I stood in the foyer I saw him walking along West Street WC2 on his way to the Ivy restaurant which was opposite the theatre. He stood out a mile and had a scarlet blazer on and his soon to be wife Iman hanging on to his arm. That was it. That brief image still burned into my memory like a photograph some 23 years later. Heard of the tragic loss first thing this morning... and that numb feeling of losing something, someone, who has been a part of each decade of your life. A true star and entertainer. Always regretted not seeing Ziggy at Hammy Odeon; but so thankful to have eventually seen him in Tin Machine and rocking - still every bit the class entertainer. I'm with you 9's, still always playing his different albums today and always will. Another world star and icon lost... enjoy gigging with Freddie Mercury, Mick Ronson and Luther Vandross now. Lost but never forgotten. RIP David
Without doubt a musical Genius alongside Lennon, McCartney and Dylan (some have mentioned Elvis Presley and Frank Sinatra but these two don't compare imo because they didn't write their own songs). Beyond music, art and fashion, Bowie's legacy was summed up nicely by a BBC reporter yesterday, who said "he made it possible for people to be themselves". At a time when Elton John was still pretending to be hetrosexual and getting married (to a woman), Bowie was giving hope to generations of young gay and bisexual people. He certainly helped dispel my prejudices. Sad to see that Angie Bowie, who was so important during the Ziggy Stardust/ Aladdin Sane days, had become so isolated from Bowie's life - the split between her and David and their son Duncan/Zowie must indeed been profound
Thank you Norway...and thank you Lady Gaga. An amazing tribute....but obviously put together with a lot of love. RIP Ziggy
If you think that Ziggy was 1972, bloody amazing what the genius that was Bowie achieved. Only he could get away with playing what appeared a Db in error.
You are joking Gaga should and is receiving worldwide outrage even from Bowiea son Gaga is a complete ugly naff talentless bitch hopes she burns She has no identify and is nothing but a parasite
She is about as creative as blank cardboard box She cannot do original It's all borrowed or pushed as creative Top of my list for most hated people who exploit everything for a shallow career
So your not a fan then? Can't say I am either, and found it a strange decision that she should try and do a homage to Bowie for me it would be like Ali Dia popping up if Le Tiss were to pop his cloggs
The cow used this countries finest talent to promote her new business deal with those ****ers Intel I would have her staked out in on of Londons great parks where the public could go and **** on her in the name of art The sinking rotting installation of the pretend artist called Gaga After all that is exactly what she is doing to us She would become art alright buried under human **** , nappies and used women's hygiene products
She made beige British miserablists Coldplay look good at the Superb Owl. On top of all her other manifest challenges, she can't sing. A mate took a flight back to the States with her in the seat behind a couple of years ago (he'd cashed in his miles for first class luxury). He offered to sign her menu for her and she blanked him, not even a smile. Then her entourage were scuttling up from business class every 30 seconds to see if she could work the seat, select a movie, drink without help etc etc. I find her easy to ignore though. Never consciously heard one of her songs all the way through.
