I was disappointed to read this and maybe I've been a bit naive as I don't use social media like Facebook or Twitter.

I thought that the rumours of Sturridge considering leaving us was just media driven nonsense but it seems he is upset by the amount of negative comments from Liverpool fans in regard to his injury record.

The following is from Jordan Henderson which confirms that he is unhappy with some fans reaction to his injury problems, this to me adds to the speculation that we could lose Sturridge in the Summer.

I don't understand these morons who want to abuse players.


I'm actually quite angry about it, I find these social media sites a cess pit of utter human degredation.

Him being injured is a point of frustration for fans and rightly so I imagine it's quite frustrating for the player as well. So some so called fans think that they will show their frustration by abusing him on social media and drive him from the club. They are not Liverpool fans.

The daft **** needs to accept that it comes with the territory, he's a famous footballer who's drawing £120k a week and has been on the sick for the best part of 2 years.

His former team mates have intimated he's a sick note who won't play unless he feels 100% and therefore fans have had a pop at him.

If he can't see that his injury record is abysmal and it's this that has lead to the questions about his commitment, then he's even more stupid and self absorbed than he appears.

No, they are first and foremost trolls...small little people who's emotionally maturity hasn't gone beyond toddler displays of frustration.

But.....He is first and foremost a professional athlete..his highly paid job is to get himself physically and mentally capable of performing for LFC.

He wouldn't keep turning up at a pub where he had to indure punters kicking him in the leg so why do the mental equivelent with social media?

If he can't hack it he doesn't have to. Switch your accounts to private for family and friends like a lot of normal people do.

To me it enforces the idea that he is mentally brittle rather than just physically susceptable.

It "hurt him"? He knows a section of fans are knobs...he's not the first LFC player to get abused and a few like Lucas got far worse...just switch off your solid gold special addition phone and get back in the gym...

I also think it's bad to read some of the stuff written on here about Lucas/Skrtel/Benteke amongst others.
People forget that places like this are in the public domain, and opinions spread and can get out into the wider world. It's not like having a bit of a moan in the pub with your mates.
It's not surprising players can lose interest if they think their own (so-called) fans are against them.
It's why I constantly call for us to get behind the team- all of the players, not just our favourites.

If Sturridge regains fitness and we lose one of the best strikers in the league because of the childish and petty nature of some fans, I'll be really pissed off, tbh.

That's how I feel and I generally try to get behind players. Balotelli I did not but that was down to the fact that I though his attitude on and off the pitch would end up hurting the club so I did lay into him a bit I did post quite often that I would love him to prove me wrong, hypocrisy? Meh....these guys get plenty of morons kissing their arse too....they love it when they are getting the praise but tend to baulk at any criticism. He's earned a ridiculous amount of money at this football club for playing not a lot of football. I'd take all the abuse you could possibly imagine (verbal abuse for those starting to get the wrong idea ) if I was earning half his wage.

I love Studge and I hope he stays, we need a guy like him, he brings an entirely different dimension to our game however I do think he needs to grow a backbone if he has let some mindless idiots on twatter upset him. Imo if he leaves it will have **** all to do with a few moronic fans and everything to do with his relationship with the manager.

I agree, sometimes it just doesn't work out despite hard work and effort and if that's the case you move on and should have the fans respect, I think Rodgers comes into that category he wanted nothing but the best for us and wanted to emulate some of our past managers, it didn't work out but it was through no lack of effort and I hope he gets a great response from the fans when he returns to Anfield.

With Sturridge I see him on the pitch and quite clearly he is playing for the team and wants to win, he scores for us and is an important player he should have our support through injury not abuse.

I have a general dislike for the social media I mentioned and that's probably spilling out into my opinion. Turn it off if you don't like it is without a doubt what Sturridge should do. I don't want to excuse these morons though, if you like Facebook you should be able to go on there regardless of your status in life and not have to put up with abuse, there should be better filters and more done by the websites to stop the extreme idiots who think that being controversial makes them some kind of diversive character who should be respected because they speak their mind, freedom of speech these idiots cry without any knowledge of what that actually is.

Case in point.
I never slagged off Rodgers because he clearly wanted success for us- he just couldn't make it happen.
I lost all respect for Hodgson, however, when he made it clear that he thought we should just accept our position as a mid-table club and not expect more.
Without the ambition to improve you never will - with an attitude like that he had to go.

You'd expect people to have a thicker skin- but not everyone has and we'll be shooting ourselves in the foot to lose him just so a few puerile idiots can play at being internet hard men.
I agree that it'll be down to the manager and staff to ultimately persuade him where his future lies. Having kept him going through a difficult time for him, I'm hoping he feels like he owes us a season or three at least.

Personal abuse is taking it too far but what constitutes personal abuse, i mean i can say that the guy seems like a total insufferable over-sensitive dickwad and that i find him annoying (which happens to be the case) so is that abuse or expression of opinion ?! I certainly don't go on FB and Twatter directing stuff at him. He's a class footballer when fit which should be remembered above everything and judgement of him personally is non-objective as other than seeing him on a football pitch for 90 minutes every week () he's basically a complete stranger. However I think we can all say we've felt frustration with the guy. He isn't annoying when he's scoring for us though is he ?!

Abuse, public discontent and dissatisfaction goes with the territory in any high profile public career be it politics, media or sport. Sturridge seems to be using this more easily than most as some kind of deflection or at least making a big deal out of something that others aren't at all perturbed by or who don't admit it publically and never flag up.

At any rate he should be concentrating more on football than twatter and that it's the other way around says more about his character from his own perspective than any fan is doing through abuse or trolling

Although I partially agree with people saying he should just close or restrict his social media accounts if it bothers him, why should he have to? I'm sure players do it because it gives the fans a link to football players. Don't people moan that players are too distant and separated from society nowadays? This is a way of crossing that issue yet people are using it as a negative to ironically beat the player with.
