Completely agree. If we believe that we don't need Kane in every game, why's he always there? Colchester was the perfect opportunity to try it but he still played. Strikers are not just about goals, especially lone strikers. Without aspecialist spearhead I see the ball coming back at us over and over again as we fail to hold onto it. Just like the latter part of the 2nd half at Leicester when we brought Kane off the bench to help us retain the ball.

I think Ali can do that if needed.

Lyall Thomas, a SSN journal has tweeted saying there's to be no more business in or out

I would argue that Arsenal have Walcott who is probably better as a central striker than Chadli or Son, Barca are effective as long as 2 of the 'MSN' are playing (especially if one of those is Messi), Benzema is also not Real's main goal threat by a long shot, and Bayern have players like Muller who can fill in as a 9, or they can play without a striker and still dominate teams in their domestic league. Kane is not the best player on that list but I would argue he is as important, if not more important, to the success of Spurs as any of the above are to their teams.

Yeah just mentioning the out and out strikers there mate. All sides have an abundance of talent that have shed loads of goals in them but often from wide positions or just behind the striker. Walcott doesn't overly convince me as a CF, his pace to get behind the defence is obviously deadly but I think he lacks other qualities to lead the line effectively for a prolonged period.

In there title winning seasons how often did Chelsea leave out Drogba? Arsenal Henry, Utd Van Nistelrooy (or Rooney), when Blackburn won the league Shearer played in every league match. I am not saying we will win the league or that Kane is quite at these players level (yet), but he is our equivalent. And we now have a spine, Lloris, Alderweireld, Dier, Alli, Kane and they will play every week like Cech, Terry, Makelele, Lampard and Drogba or whoever you want to choose from the goons and the mancs

The meltdowns on Twitter are brilliant.

The funniest thing is, while we've all speculated on possible incomings, Poch has maintained for months that we'll only sign someone that fits his criteria and fair play to him for sticking to that, Dembele was seemingly someone but it seems Fulham sort of dicked us about.

Look at Messi and Ronaldo too, they are irreplaceable and yet both play pretty much every week including Champions League matches and the latter stages of Copa del Rey etc.

I remember one season where Messi played something like 60+ games and yet there was an article where Gerrard said he and his team mates needed better rests between games yet only played in about 40.

My concern about Kane isn't that nobody else in the squad scores goals, your stats above prove we have plenty of goals around the team. My concern is that Kane is so central to how we play that without a similar figure in that position, the effectiveness of other players is diminished. Chadli is probably the one who would play up there as he has the best physical presence and I just do not have the confidence in his ability to play as a striker.

Berahino or Dembele II would bring different qualities to that position true, and the former might even play with Kane on occasion, but they're more or less specialist strikers who are used to linking up with other players from that position, whereas with Chadli or Son up there we'd be playing without a focal point (but with even more fluidity than usual, true) and it would completely change the dynamic of the team in my opinion, in a way that we haven't really played with a lot of consistent success yet.

We of course need the RIGHT striker, I'm not saying we sign anyone for the sake of it, but I'd feel more comfortable with a specialist to back up Kane even if they'd be a slightly different type of player.

Late bid for Jay Rodriguez anyone?

This is complex to argue on both sides especially when we don't see training and therefore only see players like Son and Ali in the roles assigned for the team on any given day. I would not be at all surprised to see Ali be able to play the striker role. Don't forget the whole team will perform differently depending on who in the squad is playing and the beauty is they are geared up for that. I think MP has created a truly integrated flexible squad where all members can slot in. The Spurs squad is quite different to anything else in the PL atm and the signs are that MP will not be that upset if he does not add to it in this window.

And how many crucial goals did Solskjaer score for United from the bench? Or a certain Jermain Defoe, holder of record number of goals scored as a substitute? It isn't as simple as 'leaving players out'. It's the importance of being a goal down or stuck at 0-0 against a team with 10 men behind the ball and having no-one to turn to from the bench to make a difference.

I'd say the opposite. Leaving a relegation-threatened, financially stricken team less than 2 days to replace their 2nd best player while under a transfer embargo is possibly the worst example of 'dicking around' I've ever seen or heard of, and we should be utterly ashamed of it.

F*ck me I'm in such a bad mood :headbang:

EDIT: And comparing our players to the likes of Messi and Ronaldo is frankly laughable and doesn't help me feel any better <ok>

Berahino fit the criteria and we were told he was the only target in August, yet the January window is nearly done and we haven't got him or even bid for him again.

And back in August/ Summer we made about 4 bids that were rejected, the final being about £25m+. Can't say we never tried for him.

As for this window I doubt much has changed, we've probably spoken to WBA and Peace's stance has remained the same hence our move for Dembele which eventually broke down at the final moments. **** luck on our part I'd say.

We offered £5m up front plus the rest based on appearances, CL qualification, international caps, etc. How would we have reacted to a similar Bale offer? Fulham said they wanted to keep hold of Dembele. Given they're deep in ****, wouldn't you? If we've tried, it wasn't hard enough

...because it was initiated in the final moments.

Shillow Tracey from Ebbsfleet and Oduwa back from Rangers.Top business this window :(

Ah well, hopefully Peace will get bent over in the summer with Berahino going for half what's been offered so far.

Fulham had the whole window to replace him. They knew we were interested ages ago.

Berahino has not come across as a team player...even when he has scored he hasn't even bothered to celebrate. .. he's apparently been poor in training and in the words of his boss has been lucky to be on the bench...this has obviously gone against him at Spurs. I am glad as I think we've dodged a bullet with him.
Our team spirit has made for a good season so far and one person could damage that.
I think some of the criticism of Levy tonight is unjustified tbh...Fulham agreed a fee with us re Dembele so it was not too late a bid...if it was they would never have agreed the fee and let him have a medical.
I think MP has decided that he'd rather stick with our current squad ... he may be proved wrong but he has deserved the right to make that call.
