fair enough then. lets do what i did with greez yesterday @saintKlopp @Page_Moss_Kopite while i was about oh i dunno 20 odd or somethign when he started you guys were watching from the stands etc.... did you think carragher was a bit of a mule really? you can admit it... he was marginal wasn't he? It was heart and desire than won him his place until he could move to CB and the abuse he got at LB for example was huge from "some quarters"
I'm not sure how old he was at the time, think he was playing LB, but I can remember Gerard running back 40/50 yards to the lb position, and taking the ball from Carra and then going up the pitch. Didn't even want him to try and pass to him. Which thinking about it now might have been a bit of a dick move.
I was a massive critic of Carragher in the early days. I couldn't stands seeing him in a Liverpool shirt #learningcurve
I agree I don't see that much potential in him either, I just think he's the perfect squad player as he's always going to fight for a place so if you're a Liverpool fullback you have to perform or this lad will nick your place.
He's a fighter. His knee could go in the morning so nobody knows. But if a guy sets a tone there's value in them.
meh its just because our standards have dropped over the years. in the 70's and 80's he would be no where near our squad. the only reason he was now days is because he is local and knows what playing for the club means and gives 100%, and sadly we have got into a position where that is nearly as important as quality. well sorry you play for this club you should give 100% whether your from toxteth or ruddy madrid, get paid enough pikey ass batards!!
Despite appearing to idolise him on here, I have said many times that he's not the best FB out there bar far. He performs to a good level but the more important thing is he is consistent, don't underestimate that quality. Finnan, Arbeloa, Carragher, Rob Jones, etc were all extremely consistent and curved a career out of it. Perhaps that seems bit harsh on them as they were very good players too but I'm believe Flanno will get better if he can avoid injuries. As I said above, I slated Carragher when he first got in the side. I wanted to see him moved on as I thought he was shockingly bad, I had in in the Kvarme level of players. However, he learnt more about the game, the position and his own limitations and put them all to good use. Match them with heart, desire, passion and love for the club and you've got yourself a cracking little player that won't ever let you down!
Giving 100% because your a local and love the club isn't a bad thing. Carragher wouldn't have played back in the 70's and 80's either. Sure, he proved he was good enough in time but he'd have never have been given the chance in the first place back then because he wasn't good enough in his younger days. Plus, in the 70s and 80s, clubs had their first choice elven and a couple of subs, there were no squads like there are today.
think most suspected that was the case anyways. just a few got excited with the links the media was giving and hoping it was done now like lol.
