Putting your alternative lyrics to one side for a moment (which could be confused as an ode to cocaine). I think this would be a great song for a crowd.

It's not too challenging to sing and everyone knows the words and the lyrics are relatable to being a football supporter.

Not too challenging. Must be a question of where you are in the stadium. Many of the people around me on the Northam require assistance in remembering which way to look to see the pitch. Love 'em of course. But OWTSGMI taxes quite a number of them.

I hate signing new players because it causes this fruitless search for a song....very few successful ones are longer than 2 lines. One will arise naturally....he has to earn it first. (though he made a great down payment at OT :)).

I put this on the Man U v Saints match thread, but it's worth a second outing, so how about this one?

To the tune of The Proclaimers song "I would walk 500 miles"

I would walk 500 miles, and I would walk 500 more
To see the man who scores a goal or two, or three, or even more:
Charlie Austin (Charlie Austin)
Charlie Austin (Charlie Austin)
Dum diddle um, dah dah dum diddle um dum dum

(OK, this could be described better, but it does scan, and it's fairly simple)

noted Lemons ... and your request to include it in the positive match thread. Fran's going to love that one :)

Reactions: Lemons and Oranges
Did you not read my post? <laugh>

As my signature says "some of us are looking at the stars". Provided that the Northam End supporters (and I'm one of them) can remember Charlie's surname, they can all join in the refrain. or something. I suspect that you're right about 'Dum, diddle, um,' but nothing ventured, nothing gained.
Maybe Gareth Malone can be persuaded to set up a football fans' choir. There must be some harmonies in "Who's the w****r in the black?"

Charlie Austin has a beard, eieio
But so much of it is on his neck, that's a little weird
Go, score, win!

I've never understood the odd insistence of English fans on players needing to have songs. The whole thing confuses me.

Phil Thompson saying Liverpool should have signed Austin at that bargain price. Well join the queue for teams that should have signed Austin. Says he's a Liverpool fan....sounds like our Charlie is a bit of a tart....I read in another article that he was a Chelsea fan!

I've had these... we should have signed Austin... articles right up to here. So really the only team that shouldn't have signed Austin was us. Because every other team in the UK appears to be able to make a better case for doing so. :)

I actually like those articles. They make me giggle and think, "Yep, you should have but you didn't. We did. Losers!" :)

Yep, I quite a agree. If the football media had their way, we wouldn't exist. We somehow manage to produce and buy players that are just too good for us. We are an anomaly, and they can't handle the truth, wishing our players away to to the promised land of the status quo.

As a fellow Northam supporter, I would suggest you are being over-optimistic. Some of the ones round me seem to forget which team they support. Maybe if we could get Charlie and "****ing hates Pompey" into the same chant we'd have a chance.

Hopefully, this hasn't been suggested before, but I've just been reminded of an old chant, which should get some of the ancient Saints supporters going, and it's appropriate for Austin. How about ?

UP THE MIDDLE FOR CHARLIE
:D
