A win this evening would be a nice way to celebrate my Kilburn born Dad's 100th birthday (he passed away Sept 1993).

Hopefully none of this nonsense this evening, or a 5-2 score-line.

    Clough's moment of madness

In 1989, Brian Clough was in trouble for punching his own fans after they'd invaded the pitch.

It wasn't Brian Clough's best moment when he 'clipped the ears' of Nottingham Forest fans who had come on to the pitch celebrating a 5-2 win over QPR. However, it was classic Clough days later. Two of the fans, who had been punched by Clough, came to the City Ground to say sorry for what they'd done.

There aren't many managers who would still earn respect, even after receiving a punch to the head, but Cloughie was different.
On BBC Midlands Today, we saw the cut story in which Clough made the two young men kiss him - as a way of saying he forgave them.
It all appeared jovial and forgiving but when the three first met it was prickly to say the least.

Clough is also interviewed about his behaviour and about football ID cards, which was a Tory proposition at the time.
    Watch our classic footage:

Punched by Brian Clough and happy to throw punches at his own players: Roy Keane admits, 'It's good to go a bit mad'

(from Doug & Dinsdale Piranha - Monty Python sketch)

Stig: "Well he had to, didn't he? I mean, be fair, there was nothing else he could do. I mean, I had transgressed the unwritten law."

"Yeah, well, he did do that. Yeah, yeah. He was a cruel man, but fair"

Mad: Ipswich manager Roy Keane has admitted he would rather throw a punch than a tea-cup
Ipswich boss Roy Keane has launched a scathing attack on his players and admitted: 'It’s good to go a bit mad.'
Keane recalled how he was punched by Brian Clough at first club Nottingham Forest as he launched his glittering career.
He said: 'Cloughie was dead right, absolutely. It was the best thing he ever did for me. It’s good to get angry. It’s an emotion and part of the game.
'If people upset you and you don’t get angry I would say you’re in the wrong game.
'It’s good to go a bit mad but I don’t throw teacups around. That’s not my style – I’d rather throw punches.'
Keane, who is fighting to save his job just 11 months after taking charge, locked his squad in the dressing room for 90 minutes after Tuesday’s defeat at Watford.

He added: 'I appreciate the days are gone when you could go around assaulting people.
'But players drive you crazy and some things had to be said. A few home truths shouldn’t hurt them.
'I should have made three substitutions after just 10 minutes the other night.
'I gave players an opportunity to come back in and stake their claim but they threw it back in my face.
'Others have been making the same mistakes week in, week out, and they will take us nowhere fast.'
Keane’s team have suffered just two home defeats all season but they have won only three times on their travels.
He said: 'It seems they can’t cope when they are outside their comfort zone. You would have a better chance of winning the lottery than us winning away from home.'

I think Washington is a striker isn't he?

I don't buy into the whole number ten thing at this level. You expect at least one striker to drop into midfield when we don't have the ball anyway. If it gets Fer out the team, it has to be a good thing.

Have the same problem - they should put the teams up in plain readable black on white, plus sort the live text scrolling which doesn't scroll on my phone or othets I hear! It doesn't even reach down to their team!

I just prefer to see a "proper" No10 as opposed to a striker filling in. Certainly in a 4-4-2 a striker can drop in. I maintain though, that Washington looks like an out and out striker to me.

You defend as a team. The whole unit, which was the problem with Saturday's Wolves goal. Fer, Phillips and Hoillet were all playing the no.10 role and didn't defend. Have we been through this one yet? :emoticon-0136-giggl

He is. I just don't think there's actually much difference between the two formations except one allows one of Fer or Hoilett to ponce about between attack and midfield not contributing much to either. Watford play 4-4-2 but Deeney is essentially 'in the hole'.

Not done clearly enough yet. Try again maybe, and copy JFH, Junior, Luongo, Fer, Phillips and Ale!

The team sheet has been submitted.

At first glance, the team selection looks a little surprising given that Jamie Ward has finally found the shooting boots that apparently fell down the side of the sofa with all the crisps and crumbs. Oliver Burke too has been every bit as impressive as we hoped he might be. Gary Gardner - while not quite scaling the dizzy heights of his initial spell here - hasn't put a foot wrong.

On the other hand, the games have been thick and fast in recent weeks. Gardner has been dropped in and on occasions has looked a tad short of match fitness - hardly surprising given his recent injury and lack of game time. Both Burke and Ward have been called upon heavily in recent weeks and while it's bloody tempting to let him run and run and run, it's also important to protect him. Ward less so - he can protect himself thank you very much.

Do we need another defensively minded midfielder in the engine room at home? Maybe. Maybe not. But Mancienne has been mightily impressive in this position recently and him being stationed there should allow Mendes and Osborn a little more freedom to get forward. Besides, two strikers at home has been effective.
It wouldn't be surprising to see Ward and Burke unleashed at some stage. No...not like 'that'. I meant on the field. Have a word with yourself.

I would love to change this stat:-

•Nottingham Forest have never lost a competitive match at home to QPR (P31 W19 D12).

Me too. Reckon we could do them 3-0

Steps in right direction made in midfield. Disappointing Fer's still getting games despite the lack of form and no Washington.

Expect Chery will eventually force his way in ahead of Hoilett as well

But progress with Faurlin and Luongo in so I'm happy with that. As long term that's the best pairing
