  1. 2l doesn't matter too much if its a fairly modern diesel. that's what I've got and tax isn't too bad (£130pa)

  3. Yeah, if you're only looking at two or three year old it will be. I was talking a bit older.

May as well have the 2l then ;)

Personally, I wouldn't but a European car full stop. <laugh> Going on reliability and value for money you still can't beat the Japanese. (although GM, Ford and Audi have done some catching up last I checked)

I will admit a lot of Japanese cars are rather boring looking and less refined interiors though so it's a matter of what you value most.

Personally, I don't care about street cred or appearance... I just wanted a car that will run me 250k miles until the robot cars take over.

Certainly a Beemer looks nicer and will out perform my Honda though. I don't know anything about the BMW 1 series (as far as I'm aware they don't sell them in the US) but I've known people with Z4s, 3 series, and my sister has a 5 series. I don't know one happy BMW owner.

A Merc or an Audi might be better if you want a German car but don't want to live at the garage. (although the BMW s here are all made in the US... Real German made ones might be better made).

On bmw was about 450 a year..

Audi will be cheaper as it's only band 8 rather than 14.

  13. TBF I didn't know you could get a 1.6 A3, thought they started at 2.0 and insurance group 17 or 18 (that's what they were when I was looking).

I'd have the BMW ecru single day of the week between those two though.

Yeah quite a few listed as 1.6.

I must ust admit do prefer the bmw but few people said 3 series is much better than 1 series but muxh prefer look of the 1.

Gonna try take both Audi and now dor test drive, see what they're like when put foot down, that's frustration about mine, trying to overtake in motorway from 60-70 is hard work!

    All about gearing there.

Germans know how to set-up to do that.

My ****ty golf is only good at 60 to 80 mph. From 0-50 it's embarrssing and lime pedalling.

I agree that 3 series is far superior to 1 series. Only arguement for 1 series is space to park.

A3 is top car. 3 series is top car.

Yeah 1 is shorter and just prefer the look, much more of a hatchback which I prefer.

  19. If you get any problems, they'll cost money for parts. And yes, 3 series is better. I wanted a BMW 3 series compact for bloody ages but never took the plunge. they're a bit old now, stopped making them in 2004!

1 is a diluted/watered down version of the 3. Bit of a non-event car that doesn't know what it wants to be, sports hatch back to compete with Golfs / A3 or small 3 series punching above it's weight with exec saloons

3s is a rock solid 5 stars out 5 car in its class.

Prefer Beemers to Audis. Fit out and drive is much better imo and experience, they make less **** models too, not that the Audis I've driven haven't been nice
