Reportedly set to make £1 million bid for Man Utd keeper Sam Johnstone currently on loan at Preston according to today's Sun...

WE should have kept McCarthy and got rid of Green. Another stupid cock up by our club. McCarthy would have come good and been a decent keeper for us. Now i hear we are trying to loan him back. <doh>

Is McCarthy injured or just not 1st choice at Palace?

And reportedly he said No to being loaned back to us.

We tried to get rid of Green. No one would take him for free.

I said to the fellow next to me at the last match; name me the last player we bought / loaned from Manchester United who was any good?

We concluded - Gary Micklewhite - free transfer on 04 July 1979.

We don't have a good record of signings from Manchester United.

Pragmatically - a club like that aren't going to let a decent player go.

Hardly a cock up by the club, he had a relegation release clause in his contract and don't say we shouldn't have given that option in the contract because he just never would have come in the first place.

They let Danny Drinkwater go to Leicester and he's been one of their stars, so there are some decent ones that slip through their grasp...

He's not first choice, he had a run of games at the beginning of the season and was crap, no look in from then on.

Actually McCarthy featured in the first six PL games of the season for Palace, before Hennessey took over as #1, and has since interchanged with Speroni on the bench. In those matches he accrued 3 wins, 3 losses, conceding 7 goals, 9 points gained. I saw a few highlights from those six games and although he certainly made a few mistakes, but overall didn't look too bad and the results bear that out.

Looks like the losses against Arsenal, Man City City and Spurs, by one goal, could have been winnable if Palace could have scored a few goals.

Norwich 1 Palace 3
Palace 1 Arsenal 2
Palace 2 Villa 1
Chelsea 1 Palace 2
Palace 0 Man City 1
Spurs 1 Palace 0

Hennessey was once again in goal for their 4-0 drubbing at Man City yesterday. McCarthy only conceded one goal against City.

I believe any keeper, unless he is utter crap, requires a decent of games to establish himself in the position, and McCarthy never got that opportunity with us or Palace, or Smithies for that matter.

It would have been nice if we could have unloaded Green pre-season, and secured David Bentley from Southend to fight for the #1 position with Smithies.

I think he is no 3 at Palace now...strangely enough his Palace appearances have all been error-strewn.

I really did not rate him at all

I think we have two better keepers here already (and neither are Green)

So why was he dropped?

Was David McCreery after Mickelwhite, he was a decent signing?
