I see OBZ halted the Brighton slide, on his birthday too, for the result we should have achieved at Blackburn.
He played 73 mins, we should have kept him in our locker.

We'll see how "injured" Charlie has been when he starts playing for Saints. Perhaps we've been keeping him safe, wrapped in cotton wool awaiting a transfer?
Welcome Watford to the Polter appreciation society.....
Any new player, particularly one who has never played here, deserves time. Ferdinand was our best striker of the last 30 years or more and was crap at the start which is no surprise when coming from non-league and likewise with Polter it's a totally new type of football. That's before you consider adapting his life to a new place, language barriers etc.
He puts in great effort and is improving with every game. He's youngish (I think) and is starting to show some talent. Can't fault the bloke so far even if he did look cack when played for ten minutes at a time once a month.
Agree entirely, but unfortunately we have some fans who will always give a player stick for no apparent reason.......He's played for the German National sides up to under 21 level so is no mug......give him time and he could become a cult hero.....
That is a very fair point Watford, he should be given the time to adapt to a new type of football and a new country. The problem is that we expect players to come in and be an instant success.
I may have imagined it but I thought I saw on Sky football focus this afternoon Charlie at Saints with his arm in a sling.
On Player it was pointed out that JFH changed Luongo's role at HT and it made a big difference to his contribution. One of the things that they also commented on was that this change greatly helped Polti's game and allowed him to successfully hold the ball and bring others into the game.
2 things from this. One, the manager saw what was wrong and changed it. Two, he still doesn't quite know the players' best positions/roles but hopefully today has given him a good steer, particularly in relation to Luongo.
One other thought... with CA gone it really has opened up the opportunity for someone to stake a claim to being the no1 striker - be interesting to see how that one plays out especially if we don't manage to bring anyone in. I'll nail my colours to the mast... I think Polti could be a real gem for us... great engine, evident desire and seems to have the knack of not only scoring goals, but is a pivot for the attack. We should be playing to his strengths.
He is not CA, but he is ours and he seems up for the challenge.

Indeed we do. It doesn't help when the board/management don't give these guys a run of games and it certainly doesn't help when they're left out for **** players who don't want to be here. I'd still love to see both full-backs replaced (with what we already have) but at least Smithies, Luongo and Polter got a whole game.
Agree again, I am no fan of either Perch or Konchesky. How Perch was Wigan's player of the season heaven only knows, the others must have been really crap.
Before you even get to midfielder Ward-Prowse's two goals, the signing of Charlie Austin from QPR certainly leaves the Saints with plenty of scoring options.

Austin was watching on from the stands, and will have been delighted with what he saw from his new team-mates, who played with real fluency and verve going forward.
The only minor concern for Austin could be over how regularly he will fit into a team that appears to have rediscovered the qualities that drove them into a seventh-place finish last season.
"We like to make the squad stronger, and that means Charlie in, nobody out," Koeman said.
"We're looking forward to having more competition. That will be good. Will someone be sold? No. Nobody is for sale in January."

Southampton snap up QPR striker Charlie Austin in £4m deal after passing medical

Southampton have completed the signing of Charlie Austin from Queens Park Rangers after agreeing a fee of £4million for the striker.
Saints confirmed on Saturday that Austin has signed a four-and-a-half-year deal after he agreed personal terms and passed a medical.

Austin, who will wear No 28 for Southampton, added: 'You see the progression from when I was playing against Southampton for Swindon. For me, it was important to come to a club that's on the up and that's what I've got here.'
It is understood that the 26-year-old was going to wait until his contract at Loftus Road had expired in the summer but the lure of playing Premier League football before then was enough to convince him to join early.
