England need to be very sharp tomorrow in getting last 3 and then be very solid with opening 3... I kind of expect someone to lose a wicket early.... but it seems the new ball does less than an older one here.

The ned of Agger's article on the BBC regarding the first day:

"England's plan will be to wrap up the South Africa innings as quickly as possible on the second morning, then apply themselves for as long as possible with the bat."

So: The plan should be to get them out as quick as possible and then bat as long as possible. Sounds good to me. <ok>

Andrew Samson
BBC Test Match Special statistician
"Ben Stokes took his 50th wicket in his 22nd Test, having reached already reached 1,000 runs. Ian Botham took 21 Tests to do that double. The record is 15 matches by South Africa's Aubrey Faulkner, who played in the early 1900s."

313.... Average score. Not seen what the wickets like though?

Disappointing score IMO from where the close of play was.. they have got to par. Our ideal was about 50 less

We also lost Hayles which i kind of expected given him being sick and the nature of the wicket.

Its an awful lot of poor shot making form a lot of batsmen IMO so far... theres a shedload of time in this, wait for your ****ing shot... see off their fast guys cos they have no spin and you'll be playing tired ****ers.

don't throw your wicket away!

I said the top 3 would need a lot of concentration yesterday. we've managed to as expected lose an early wicket so no we need cook to dig in, especially cook. we need at least 50 out of him.

compton is slowly succumbing to pressure. he is just throwing bat at it like a tail ender at times

We need peopel with cooler heads as upper order batsmen... wait for the ball to come.

cook needs a slap at this point. he's reverted to his bad form days and its all himself getting out with silly shots.

Need a couple good partnerships to steady the ship. Still fancy us to get to about 270

I'm not at all shocked by this.

The guys who have gone have all cracked and thrown the bat at the ball

Joe root is a hero... 50 up.

Stoke is beside him and bairstow to come. Bairstow has proved he can dig and and he can slog them.

Compton looked so poor, he was playing and missing and he's meant to be no 3? 26 scored

Taylor is a guy who i think is good but he's got unlucky as an inside edge to pad and then gets caught is not really controllable.

I sincerely doubt we will get 270.

we are on 156/4.

We will need someone to stick with root and then we will need the ball to not start swinging as it ages. We need a century stand for us to get close to 270. a 50 ball partnership would be nice

root on 60. stokes 38

162/4

getting close to both actually being in.

If they could get to baout 210 or so I'd like to see if stokes can tonk the **** out of this lot.

There has to be a time i nthe game when if he can stay in we have to open the guy up. where would you say.. lets go at these guys ebfore the new ball.. 60 overs in?

21 overs time at 3 and over = 62 runs.

Stokes gone for 58, Root's got a centruy, Éng 231-5 with big black clouds rolling in.

I've just notice that [HASHTAG]#SAvENG[/HASHTAG] Looks like "save ENG"...
