I think we should just buy a load of England B/C players. Shelvey, Townsend, Caulker (just for BRS), Austin, left back - plenty of physical presence. Seriously though I'd take this lot over a bunch of french rejects Carr wants to rim.
Such is the reputation of the mighty Swans and the quality of the Newcastle offer for our bench warmer even our fans in Asia didn't want the deal to fail
Shelvey won't give you physical presence unless his waistline continues to grow. He might kick a few people and give away stupid free kicks that lose us far more points than he has ever contributed but he goes missing against physical teams ... correction ... he just goes missing. He is good at waving his arms and blaming others for not being where he's kicked the ball.
Yes but we have Jack "2ft Ginger Pussy" Colback and Vurnon "1ft 2in I'll tell my mum you kicked me" Anita
Not sure if you have seen this but it pretty much sums up Shelvey. The journo has not been one to particularly single Shelvey's weakness and usually rates him far higher than fan scores. http://www.walesonline.co.uk/sport/...s/swansea-city-selling-jonjo-shelvey-10720219 Jonjo may well work out for you and you think it's money well spent ... I have a feeling he could have been bought for £7 - 8 million. I hope you stay up as long as we're at least one place above you.
A good signing IMO. Yes the price is over the odds, but then most transfers are these days. It's not our money and we've moaned about losing players for quibbling over prices before so not going to moan about paying too much. As I said earlier, he's a player I really don't like and that lots of other team's fans will hate - and we need a player like that with a bit of ability. Could work out to be a very good signing all round. The Swans wanted him gone, he wanted to be gone and we needed a bit more backbone. Hopefully win, win, win.
Townsend could be a better deal, and if we get that done I'd be elated. We could potentially play a team of CMs now, we have that many, but at least we have one in Shelvey who can shoot from 40 yards and play a forward pass.
To be fair though we don't really care if he cost 50m. Its not our money. We just want to see people come through the door who fit the bill. We are perennial relegation battlers all said and done. So he improves us.
We haven't created 23 chances all season let alone Shelvey. Enjoy Jonjo I'll be back with an 'I told you so' after his enthusiasm of the first few games has waned.
Thats pretty scary - looking at those figures Shelvey and Saviet have made more key passes and chances, individually, than our three put together.
He shouldn't be replacing one of them mate! He's not a defensive midfielder, either play a holding role or ideally for you, as an attacking midfielder...
He shouldn't have to be replacing them as we shouldn't have been playing with two defensive midfielders, but we have been so hopefully it will be one of those two he will be replacing.
We don't play them either of them as a defensive midfielder - they are the creative force Personally I'd sit him alongside Tiote and then play SDJ in front of them. More happens when De Jong is on the pitch. We drop him for Perez and we haven't looked like scoring since.
Shelvey would be good at the front of a diamond formation with one of them two sitting in front of the defence. What tactics do you play? Do you know? Does Steve know?
Agree with Mitro on this point. See if Tiote is Tiote of old and play De Jong to retain the ball and link up defence and attack.
