I'd like to know what the ref is thinking when Long constantly gets fouled, without winning a free kick.
Ref's, believe it or not, are human, so it is quite possible/probable at their get togethers, that they discuss individual players, and form opinions about them and then award or deny free kicks based on those discussions, rather than what they actually see, especially if a player has a reputation for falling over to easily or being "dirty".
They also watch tv, so see where they have been "done" by players.
If I remember correctly, Long should have been awarded 3 or 4 penalties, last season, but got none.
Pelle was kicked up in the air, for a penalty in a game (can't remember who against but all the pundits said it was a nailed on penalty) but the ref said no penalty. Pelle had been in the refs face a couple of times, just before over poor decisions. Do I think the ref allowed his decision to be affected, by Pelle's petulance. Damn right I do.
We see it all the time, in football, and it's gone on for years, which is why I believe the referee's association should have the mother of all spreadsheets recording every debatable decision each ref makes, to see if there is any pattern, showing repeated poor decisions against individuals or teams. Or repeated poor decisions that profit certain players or teams.
I guess we are all guilty, at some time, of making decisions based on perception rather than fact. You only have to read this board to see how often.

The referees around here wouldn't have that St Badger, but I agree with you. They just wouldn't be human if not. I am not saying they do stuff on purpose, but if a player has been at you all game and in your face, you'd get peed off for sure.

Oh yeah, when a player gets in my face I won't give them any 50-50 calls.

Fair enough when they are 50/50, but we see too many 70/30 , or in the cases I highlighted above ref Long and Pelle, 100/0 decisions going the wrong way at times.
Maybe, if the refs knew they would have to stand in front of a camera, and explain their reasons for giving/not giving certain decisions, some results wouldn't be affected by them "asserting their authority" in an unfair manner.
