I wouldn't say 0-0 is guaranteed. There's an outside chance of a 1-0 home win.

We have the opportunity to possibly close the gap on those above us. Surely that should be the motivator here but I fear there will be complete indifference to this by Van Gaal.

The only thing that seems to make him give a 5hit is when he's facing the sack and saving his own skin.

We might nick this 1-0 like the Young winner last season. Paul Scholes absolutely destroyed LVG on BT last night. I think he will lose his job if Utd can't beat Liverpool under-21s next weekend.

Remember last season? **** me, that was dire.

It can't be as bad as that, can it?

Yes it can. We are gradually getting worse as he becomes more desperate and plays more players out of position. He may be regarded as one of the top coaches on the continent but he will always be considered a joke in England!

The critical issue for the board is ensuring that we finish top 4 in order to qualify for the CL and, more importantly, we secure the next staged payment from Adidias. That is the only thing keeping LVG in a job right now - the faintest hope that we can keep station in the PL while those around us either fail or falter in the latter stages of the season.

Had the Adidas money not been an issue they would have jettisoned LVG a month or so ago and handed the reins over to Giggs for the rest of the season on the basis that things couldn't get any worse. Like many, I really can't imagine that LVG will be in charge next season - it already seems that he has been starved of cash for new signings this window - plus, should the performances this season deteriorate (even further) to the point where mathematically we can't qualify for the CL - he will be out.

Top 4 is going to be very difficult given we don't score any goals. I think Arsenal, City and Spurs are nailed on for top 4.

The 4th place is up for grabs then. :bandit:

Newcastle will either beat us 1-0 or it will be a 0-0. Unless Martial scores I can't see anyone else chipping in. We used to have scoring midfielders, what happened to them?

The reason for the slow play and backward passing are these defensive players. The DMF must be matched with the presence of at least one attacking MF.

The management team must tell the players: 'when you get the ball you HAVE to pass forwards. You'd be subbed for unnecessary sideways or backwards passing.'

This is probably what will save us - the fact that us, Leicester and West Ham are pretty much the only credible challengers for fourth place, and whilst Leicester are playing better than us we should be able to grind it out on squad depth come May.

That was depressing to even write tbh.

Unfortunately we can't make ten substitutions per game, so that strategy's out the window...

The GGs and Woodward better start opening their eyes. If they think that 4th place is the most important objective, then they are seriously misguided. The Adidas thing should have raised the alarm in the board and indicated that a 4thplace/CL participation means diddly squat if the United image as a flamboyant and win at all cost team with flair players is being slowly but steadily destroyed. Which top striker/forward player in his right mind would want to play for a team like this?

I honestly do not think top 4 should be a priority. The style of play (thanks to Scholes and others) is now top of the agenda.

I for one am ****ing angry and resent wasting 2 hours of my time watching such unimaginable dross. Every other match I watch is 100% better than a United one. the match between Spurs and Leicester was like from a different world.

Only hope is McClaren deciding to go all out to attack us. And we use the likes of Martial and Depay/Young/Lingard on the counterattack.

May be too risky for LVG though...

I think we will win this one but I doubt the performance will be very good.
