We used to have a dinosaur in charge at FIFA!!!! I like the idea of a manager having a maximum of 3 challenges and I have always advocated that the TMO (or whatever they're going to be called) should only be used for the decisions you've mentioned above.
I'd like to add off-side decisions to that as there have been a number of incorrect decisions lately!
That lead to a goal? Yes - agree. Ref allows the game to flow in spite of the lino raising the flag? It still maintains "playing to the whistle" although refs and linesmen might start to be ranked on the amount of decisions they have had overturned. This is no bad thing as it could add to the call for professional referees and therefore better standards. Otherwise Top Trumps will start creating a pack called footballing referees and Calamatyberg would be the Star Card in the deck.
I believe it's spelt "criminal" Rob. I'm not keen on the challenges format. I think it would too frequently be used cynically to slow the game. I like the rugby style where the referee is able to talk to and question the video ref. The video ref can also flag up missed things. I seem to remember that Hawkeye claimed that they could do offside too given some time.
I heard Norwich goal got ruled out for offside? Then Man City scored a goal that looked offside? (just what I heard on BBC, so sorry if wrong) So, as that is a regular occurrence for us, at least it will cut down on that kind of rubbish. It's whether it slows the game down too much, and makes it tiresome to watch.
I have been a staunch critic of introducing VT in the past, BUT if it were only used by the Ref when he wasn't 100% sure of a decision I think it should be trialled. I've always wanted to protect the traditions of the game and was even unsure when the back pass rule was introduced, as it happens it turned out to be one of the best rule changes ever made.
