The scene is now set for Arsenal's season and I am sure the Arsenal faithful are experiencing an alarming deja vu sensation. At the time of writing the circumstances in which Arsenal are involved are indeed familiar, They have been hovering around the top of the PL looking to mount a serious title challenge, they have drawn barca in the knockout rounds of the CL and Jack Wilshere is injured. This has for a long time been the default setting for Arsenal's season up until the dreaded February/March period, I have created this thread to keep an eye on whether this season will be different for the gunners or if they can shake this hodoo. Please feel free to debate amongst yourselves as to whether you think Wenger and the boys have it in them to overcome the feb/march months with their dignity in tact and sustain their current title challenge form or maybe you think we will see a capitulation of seismic proportions which in previous seasons has been characterised by William Gallas charging around like a possessed madman in dire need of an exorcism, Please feel free to express you views.

If Arsenal don't manage to win the league this season then they may never win it again. It's being wrapped up with a pretty bow on it!

I think there's a question be asked about who can win the title this season, both Arsenal and City look in good positions at the moment. But as for merit for your thread, no not really. It just reads like a **** wum thread and reads very much like something HIAG would write. Are you sure you're not the same person ?

Tis true what you said recently: if Arsenal can't take charge of the title this season they never will

Chelsea United city and pool will all be better next season. The winner will be back to 85-90 points not 75-80 like this season

This isn't about who can win the title it's about whether Arsenal can sustain their current form. Based on previous seasons many would be inclined to say no. I prefer a more objective approach.

I'd agree with Stan & CFC. With Chelsea way behind, both City and Utd being highly inconsistent, if The Goons can't take it this season, they probably never will.

You can bet that all three of the above clubs will be waving their fat chequebooks around. Probably new managers for all three too. So, it's Carpe Diem for Arsenal!...

It's so tight at the top that if Arsenal don't win I wouldn't really call it a capitulation.

  12. Superb thread! This gets the HIAG seal of approval!
    <ok>

I agree with what everyone else has said, that if Arsenal don't win the title this season, they ought to be considered complete and utter clowns.

What we don't yet know is the negative impact that getting completely mullered by Barca is going to have on the Arsenal mentality, which - as we all know only too well - is, at best, extremely fragile. We all know that there is a major embarrassment in the offing, but only time will tell just how crippling that is going to be for the Gunners.

The shambolic nature of their first leg performance against Monaco certainly brought about a certain taint to their season last year.We could postulate day and night as to whether they have yet recovered.

  14. Agreed.

I think they did recover, to some extent, as has been evident by their recent form in the Prem; but I cannot help feeling that they are just one hard spanking away from another total capitulation. A humiliation at the hands of Barca could very well be their undoing.

I'll bite. Based on previous seasons we generally tend to get stronger as the season goes on. Only 3 times have we failed to score more points in the 2nd half of the season than in the 1st. So based on previous seasons, your objective approach is entirely wrong.

What we make or break arsenal is the transfer window and injuries.
If their players out injured return they will stand a good chance of ending the season well.
If they buy another defensive midfielder and a defender they also have a good chance of ending the season well.
If they do nothing in the window and their players don't return as hoped from injury they could have a poor end of season which could cost them the title.
Imo they are the front runners as they have a 3 point lead over city.
Whatever happens they'll get a top 4 spot no matter what cos they will never collapse so badly that top 4 is in danger
