The vet has been out to see Buzz again this week and he remains on painkillers and antibiotics. A lot of his wound is healing nicely but he does have a couple of patches where the skin has died off and the stitches have pulled through. These still look quite nasty and have been being treated with Manuka honey to help the healing process.
He now only has a small bandage on part of his wound with the open patches now being left uncovered to allow them to dry and heal. They are having to keep a close eye on him to make sure his wounds do not become infected.
The swelling in his leg now seems to have gone down and it does not seem that he has done any permanent damage. He is now able to move fairly freely around his box. Hopefully in the next fortnight we will be able to get him on the walker with a view to getting him back to race fitness again before too long.
The form of Buzz' Lingfield race is turning out to be alarmingly good so lets hope we can get him back before too long.
Squire came back in from his holiday this week and as well as putting on a bit of condition he certainly seems to have grown and developed for the break. He will spend the next week or so on the walker with a view to getting him back to ridden work in around two weeks time.
We don’t have a definitive plan for him as yet other than he will start off with one or maybe two runs on the all weather to put him properly straight for a turf campaign. Of course we hope he improves from last season and pays his way again and the goal would obviously be to end up back at Newmarket in October but this time hopefully in the main race rather than the consolation.
We hope to see a few of you guys along the way. Planning a stable visit on Feb 6th to include racing at Sandown in the afternoon. If any of you fancy that just message us and we will see what we can do.

Hi stick, didn't know your horse was injured. Hope he recovers quickly. I've used manuka honey on my horses for nasty wounds. The said wound, is it covered up with a dressing?

At first it was covered but now they are leaving parts uncovered to encourage it to heal quicker. He gloved himself mate from shoulder to knee, took the vet five hours to roll the skin back up and stitch it back in place. I think most injuries like this are covered at first to reduce the risk of infection. Also if you don't cover it they lick it off.
What has worked best in your experiences?

Sounds very positive Stick, glad that Buzz is healing and by the sound of it Squire could well have an exciting season ahead. I really must get across to see them at some point.

It was sad to hear about the news from Meydan, Attwater must be very frustrated and upset by losing one in such a way.

Awful Nass. Really feel for Michael at the moment, he doesn't have a huge amount of ammo and Empire Storm was just about his best horse (Professor would be close but is also injured). Empire Storm was a veteran traveller so it was very surprising that he had the problem. Bizarrely Empire Storm never won a race for Michael but won a lot of place prize money including some Group races. I spoke to him yesterday and he is understandably gutted, the horse was undoubtedly his pride and joy.

Nasty! If using manuka it's best to leave it uncovered to let the air at it and manuka heals from the inside out. It has fantastic healing properties. Btw how did he manage to do that?

Something spooked him on the gallops and he dumped his rider and ran off. Turned up back at the yard half an hour later having negotiated the busy road around Epsom racecourse but with his skin hanging off.
    Thanks for the advice.

Very smart, I must admit I do envy your position re the horses. It's something I would like to get involved with at some point, but have a very large outlay for my three which is equivalent to a very large mortgage each month. Any way good luck with them this year, live the dream.
    Cheers.

Cheers Florida, we get an exceptionally good deal at Michaels, £1500 a month all in, no extras and we keep all the prize money after jockey fees. Ten of us in each syndicate so it makes it very affordable. He is very welcoming to visitors too so you feel a real part of it. Half the price of almost any other deal I have seen.

No Dex, back in chilly old Blighty mate. Tried La Casona on the last trip and have to say that it was exceptionally good. Went over to Punta Mural too but it was like a ghost town and La Pamela was closed. Have you ever been over the border to Monte Francisco? There is a restaurant there called Cazadores that not only serves excellent food and wine but is definitely the cheapest place I have eaten over there! Did La Puerta Ancha on the last night and I have to admit to having a dreadful hangover for my return journey, I think the huge Louis Filipe was to blame!

Nice one!... Been to Monte Gordo for the snail festival once but never Monte Francisco... Bookmarked.

Thought you might still be here..we're down for a few days to round up our trip and head to the match in Sevilla on Sunday.

Weather stinking...blowing a hooley and hosing down water..just back from a good soaking at the beach..only 2 bars
