This ^ is the salient point.

High tempo, high pressing, high paced football is nothing new in the PL, most sides play in that manner to a lesser or greater extent.

So sides are used to not only meeting that challenge head on, but also how to counter it.

Not all teams do it, but those that do Tottenham do it best though and thats why they will get top 4 this season.

Rogers had to go, etc - but I fear the enormity of what's in front of him might just be dawning on him. Just praying it doesn't overwhelm him, as he's doesn't look like he's going to outthink oppositions in this league.

I think you underestimate him to be fair - I reckon he knew that matches ago. We're in January now, the window is open and it's possible he knows he has some shipping out to do, either now or in the summer. He looked seriously downcast today and his post-match interview spoke volumes: he isn't happy with what he's seeing.

I know injuries have played some part, but what bothers me is this lot started well under him and now it's gone wrong. Why? That has to be the question. He wanted a challenge, he's got it. I reckon he'll see it out, but I don't think he can do it with this crop of players. Personally, I think Coutinho has ****ed off to another club already in his mind.

That doesn't make Klopp a poor manager. Had we got the other feller I bet he would have had the same problem.

What I can criticise him for is possibly being a tad soft with them. Too pally. I don't want him to be a miserable sod like Rodgers, but he's in charge and he ought to show the lazy bastards who's boss.

What's that got to do with it? are you Allardyce trolling here? the price of what Klopp has inherited is completely irrelevant. More confused today with his reaction to the game, and Benteke in particular, as to what the squad cost.
More of a piss take to LFKLOPP mate he's clearly on blob today...

Silly comment the price of the squad inherited is irrelevant though....Try telling that to the people who write the cheques Klopp was put in place as the current board felt Rodgers was not getting the best out of the current £££££ squad

Mahrez, Ighalo, Vardy= £1.4 million, 42 goals this season.
Benteke, Firmino, Lallana= £86.5 million, 8 goals this season.

And yet, prior to the first game of the season, most people would have put the latter three in their team over the former three. Pundits too no doubt. Look, Leicester, Watford and the like are playing great, but anyone can have a one off wonder season. Anyone remember Michu who was touted for 25million in January only a few seasons ago? Where's he now? Any player or team can have one off seasons, especially when no one expects anything from them. Despite their position, they're still not really expected to get wins against the big teams, they just keep on out-performing themselves. Lets not compare us to them.

Our team is full of good players. They're just playing pitifully right now. They're the same players who trashed Chelsea, Southampton and City not so long ago.

Our big problem is not quality, it's consistency and leadership. We've had no leader since Carra left (Sorry, Gerrard wasn't a leader, just an example setter and role model).

Not saying it's one guy. He's our only game plan and he's not up to it. I blame the MANAGER. He's been owned today, pure and simple. we got away with it on Wednesday, as Sunderland were dogshit. A half decent (though nothing special) team and we're ****ed. Today should have been about movement, not floating the ball to a guy who doesn't move. And that's it with Benteke - he has one game, and one only, and when he plays we go down to his level.

Who did we have to make movements?

Klopp's first window is upon us. He has to see the pile of ****e Rodgers assembled cost Rodgers his job and it's time to get to work.

I simply am aghast that anyone thinks we have a level above benteke from the rest. It's astounding that we think that cos city gave us acres to play in and shovelled in an of too boot we can mix it regularly with the big boys.

Frankly Firmino, lallana and coutinho have been found wanting and we've not controlled a midfield battle in 2 years.

But it's all down to benteke

The current ££££ squad that Rodgers had built!

the price is irrelevant though - there's **** all Klopp had to do with that. As to talents of the current squad - well that was my point too. He did nothing today with what he's got. Benteke costing £32m was not his fault. Not adapting to Benteke's awfulness today was. No-ne is going to make Benteke look good though with that squad unless they completely change each and every one of them into another team

So the price, per se, isn't the issue. it's getting the best out of what he has anyway, for now. It's called asset parsimony. I hope, to ****, he's not going to build a team around getting the best out of benteke.

Midfield has been weak for years. Klopp will sort it.

Have faith

Good statement.

The reality is its a "3 year" deal here. The team is a 7th place team. That's reality. Since Suarez left we've struggled hugely for goals and have conceded loads too.

Klopp's one thought so far is to shut off the goals but I think he will have already decided who's up for the fight and who's capable.

Bang on the mark about Gerrard and carragher. Today I'd no faith we'd dig in and get a clean sheet none. Not in gk. Defence or midfield to stand up and at least keep it tight.

Honestly 2-0 wasn't too bad.

Good on Smith for giving it a go to try and earn himself a start in the cup though...

The current ££££ squad that Rodgers had built!

Yes that's correct and it is relevant though.....

The board are not asking Klopp to do a job with a local pub team he has been handed 250-300m worth and they felt Rodgers was not getting the best out of the current squad did they not?

What's the boards vision have they told Klopp to rebuild or get more out of the current expensive squad?

It was only going one way under dodgers.

You don't appoint a big rep manager then hand him the same team..... end of. That why your lot are bottom half.

When you appoint a big name you rip up the team sheet and start again which is just saying hey ok you lads were right all along your lot were ****e when you said so.

Lfc will just have to pony another 500 Mil

Nice thing is we can afford it.

I think you have a valid reason to be concerned, but it was said by the commentators: we didn't have much in the way of choice on the bench, telling me they don't have any confidence in our squad, either. Who did we have to replace Benteke with? Sturridge is ****ed up again. It wasn't just Benteke who was awful, Firmino was last as well.

Give him a chance to change it with some of his own players if he can this window.

That's the point I'm making are the board going to blow another 300m or has Klopp been told get the best out of this lot as they cost a bomb and Rodgers has them playing ****e?

we had a whole team who are capable of much better movement than that but, whether by instruction or cluelessness, reverted to floating the ball to his static head or, in the case of Ford especially, wild Hollywood shots. look, I'm under no illusion that Benteke is the only thing that is wrong with our squad (far from it), but my incredulity today is aimed at our tactics of playing towards him, and our inability to recognise that is wasn't working and doing something about it. And that bit is primarily down to the manager.

as said, I hope to **** he's not trying to get something from Benteke because he cost £32m. I do recognise your point, Wishi, and I would've started with Benny today, given the options available. But how long did he need to see it wasn't working? Options? Lallana and Firmino with no cf, as the only thing that was getting through that defence was movement, and Benny was just too easy to mark. What were we hoping for? A deflection like that against Sunderland would put him through? Even when he got that today he tripped over the ****ing ball and Tompkins got back.

to be fair we were without
Gomez
Flanno
Skrtle
Henderson
Milner
Origi
Ings
Sturridge

so bench bound to be a bit light

Who other than Brod thinks it's £300m worth? <laugh>

Everyone under the sun knows we over pay for players! Not forgetting that some of that "£300m squad" as already been moved on lol
