It's 2.35 on New Year's day and I'm feeling melancholic, compelled to listen to stuff that makes me cry. No real reason for this, just a kind of ache. Here's one...

The Pyramid Song by Radiohead brings a tear to the eye.

Blubbed a bit at Marley and me when I watched that. Watership Down another one from my youth.

I've never cried at a book but get melancholy when Lord of the Rings ends.

I will add just one more and again this for me has a kind of sad tinge to it. I guess being Stuart committed suicide a year or so after this was recorded along with the lyric "Had enough of hanging on"

For what it's worth I really did not enjoy this Christmas and glad it's the new year. It gets boring having to keep a plastic smile on your face and pretend it's the best time of the year. For loads it not that.

It must cost a fortune if you have two or more kids to buy pressies for and lots of kids expect this.

It was not really a bad one personally, just a number of things that made me question why we still make such a fuss about it when so few are now practicing Christians.

It's kind of been hijacked by commercialism but going/gone a tad to far now.

I just don't feel any connection to it, feels like it's for somebody else. Oh well the time off +spending valuable time catching up close friends and family is the one real positive anyway<ok>

The last 20 minutes or so of the film 'Gallipoli' always get me going.

Along with the music 'Adagio in G Minor' by Albinoni (used in the film) and the song 'The Dance' by Garth Brooks.....both were played at my old mans funeral

Another that gets me is Pink Floyd's 'Shine On You Crazy Diamond'...

"Remember when you were young you shone like the sun, Shine on you crazy diamond,

That resonates strongly with family/friends I've lost over the years particularly with Alzheimers...

I dj in my spare time, 2 songs I cannot play are Perfect Day - Lou Reed and I'll be missing you by Puff Daddy.
A friend told me they have tried to overdose on pills and the song Perfect Day was playing on the radio - this was a few years back but still clear in my mind. We had driven to Brighton to walk along sea front when she started to talk to me about her marriage and the problems (well one it was the *******(feel free to use own words) she had married. And she couldn't see a way out....just made me feel a ****e friend as she had never explained before.
Puff Daddy - not only the song that was played when Ray Jones parents came onto the pitch after his sad death, but also at a friends mothers funeral.

Also love Hurt by Johnny Cash (previosuly listed above). Nine Inch Nails version is good - but the late Mr Cash sings it with a lot more feeling as it is stripped back.

This is one that always gets me as well. I first saw this the day after Freddie Mercury passed away, a very poignant and stark video in which he is clearly saying goodbye, the song is a beautiful reflection of life...

This beautiful song is one that I do struggle with when it gets played on TV or the radio. It was the song choice of a family member to be played at their funeral so I now try to avoid hearing it anymore. I'm sure this gets played often at funerals tbh!
