Tan's absence from club matches since his milking of the colour change fixture against Fulham last season says it all. He has no interest at all in the footballing progress at City and is only still here because of pride.
Tan doesn't need to get rich - he is rich. He could walk away from City, get back what he could through a fire sale and not bat an eyelid. He certainly wouldn't starve and the only thing that prevents him doing so is it would be an admission of business failure. No one likes losing money, particularly a business man like Tan, but whilst the loss of a large proportion of his investment would be a factor I'm convinced it's not the prime reason for staying.
He really does want to succeed, but for his own means and in his own way - it's a business not a game and that's how he sees it. He's convinced adulation and praise from club supporters and the media should we eventually regain Prem status would naturally follow on top of recouping a fair chunk (if not all) of his dosh. Above all he would have been a success.
I hope he's learned at least one thing from our last excursion up there. The secret on both counts would be staying up there and not plummeting back down through useless management decisions by him and whoever he appoints to run the footballing side of the club, because he clearly can't.
