Apparently we are looking at Iain Turner the Scottish G/K on Everton's books, he is available on a free, and won't be on big money, he is 27 not old for a keeper, but hardly "a young keeper with potential" a Scottish U21 and B international he could be worth a look, the main thing he has got going for him is he is not Bywater ;)

Proof that if you cry long enough about something, it will eventually happen. I've been bleeting about a keeper for ages, although this one isn't quite in the stature of those i'd have expected :/

Our goalkeeper purchases have been poor. Not another Scotsman please. We'll be playing in Tartan kit next.

To be honest I didn't rate Schmeichel when he played for us. Got caught out too much on crosses.
Neil Alexander was the best in my humble opinion.

Me three. Heaton can be flat footed, Marshall has issues in the head and Bywater is a useless twat.

Wasn't it Fred who let the ball through his legs against SV Hamburg?

Problem is you get clouded memories about heroes from your youth. I think every goalkeeper will have some bad days, I'm sure Frank Parsons, Jim Eadie, Bill Irwin & Andy Dibble will have some horror stories too. Looking back I suppose the best in that era would have been Bill Irwin but I'm sure others will have different views.

No, it was Bob Wilson. I was in the right hand grandstand enclosure directly behing Hoenig when he hit that powderpuff shot from about 30 yards toward the Canton stand. It seemed to take about 5 minutes to reach Wilson, and still he fumbled it. <doh>

Incidentally from memory, I don't think Wilson ever played for Cardiff again after that (somebody might correct me on that though).

All this talk of scottish and goalkeeper in the same sentences is really disturbing. It reminds me of the day when if any keeper made a stupid error the commentator would ask if he was from scotland because their national team was renowned for having the lousiest keepers in europe.I hope its worn off.

I remember Gary Sprake, that famous Wesh keeper too, making a brilliant save for Leeds then throwing the ball into his own net as he tried to feed it to one of his fullbacks.
I seem to recall he reprised the move later when playing for Wales, but I'm not sure if that is right.

Sprake was one of them goalkeepers who was brilliant until the TV camera turned up, guaranteed fowl up then.

I was always fond of Alexander, and hasn't Craig Gordon completed a £9m deal over the last few seasons for his services?
