I'm not worried. honestly the southampton game was a complete one off and honestly origi did well but his goals killed them off rather than winning game. City game was an example of klopp using his assets to exploit city well and honestly I have to say EVERYTHING from the first won goal went LFC's way really and city were all at sea. I just don't buy one guy causes the issues when klopp says 6 players v newcastle didn't do well enough.
Don't get me wrong, the Newcastle game was horrible and the whole team performed poorly. And Benteke wasn't that much worse than others (as an indidvual). It's his impact which worries me. Newcastle defenders were so worried and nervous - they had conceded 3 corners in the first 2 mins. We were all over them. The fact that we didn't press them or trouble them allowed them back in the game and that's where we lost. We gave them their confidence back.
Harsh on Ibe and Firmino - they were pressing to be fair and whilst I don't like Milner, he puts in a shift in as always. But when you have one person does not press, the whole system falls apart.
its kind of funny that in those games benteke scored v cheslea and came on v city and hart saved his shot leading to the corner where again his leap allowed skertl a free shot to score the 4th.. He's a good player and we are lucky to have him... especially when you consider we could have falcao and remy like cheslea do.
By the way why are we talking about the match and suitability of players in the transfer rumours thread?
I still have faith in falcao to come good at a proper club and i have always rated remy but in this current chelsea team playing mourinho anti football and letting hazard hog the ball i highly doubt those two will come good especially with joses management of giving them 10 mins to change the game
Yes sorry about that. I guess its your style sometimes. I agree benteke probably doesnt suit your team style currently but at the same time you have to admit you actively look for flaws in players you dont really like.
I dunno about all over them. they were indeed inhibited but the thing was the there nothing to say benteke was in any way worse let alone "that much worse" thats the thing. you do automatically say this kind of stuff about bentekte and miner no matter what. My thing was a) ibe was far too predictable. he held onto the ball too long and always went outside so the full back could show him the insde and just block him off all day. it was easy to play him. then without the ball he was too deep b) milner was very very poor on the ball and looked totally flat c) firmino doesn't press hard enough and is extremly wasteful with the ball and loses it in bad places then ends up being anonymous. YOu need him to run beyond benteke. did anyone run beyond the guy once? not really d) allen. one ssuper pass v southampton and he is pirlo to some. he was poor v newcastltle without much drive and took too long on the ball e) benteke. many times too deep, didn't run good lines that klopp wants players to run. time and again we've seen other players run similar lines that were not evident under rodgers but so far benteke has not made those runs. They are all culpable
Point C - this is thing. Benteke requires runners but we don't have players like that. Our creative players like movement ahead of them. It's such a mismatch of styles and it's what makes him unsuitable. Agree on the others points.
barely.... klopps comments "What went wrong? Nearly everything, I would say,' he admitted. 'The start, the middle and the end. 'It was an open game with no rhythm from our side. Our defending in midfield wasn't together. Our midfield pressing wasn't good, I couldn't see offensive pressing. We always had to run the long way in defence. We were not creative enough, so we had no chances." If klopp couldn't see pressing then the efforts put in were not the type of work he wanted them to do. they didn't go as a unit. There's no way that is down to benteke playing
seems to me firmino made a great couple of runs v city as did can and a player like sturridge is always looking to get in there... lallana makes a decent few runs like this too but is lazy in getting back after..... frankly irrespective of benteke, even if its sturridge up top if nobody runs beyond the striker we will flop as a side. You have to get behind teams. I don't see it as a mismatch at all. He is a very good player who'll be worked on by klopp and if he shares the duties with sturridge I can see us doing much better than one or other of them on their own. We need these options to progress in the league. We've not had this type of option since 2007 really. in 2013/14 we had two guys and played both and got 2nd but I've seen us "get by" with one recognised striker for far too long. I think Rafa failed in the end due to having no options when injuries came, he relied totally on torres and gerrard. he had 9 or 10 really good players and then got by with the rest. Right now realistically klopp has quite a few options up front but less around the park due to rodgers having so many similar players. Benteke is a good option for us.
It did for sure. What for me doesn't help is having to play someone in the middle of lovern and skertl to take it off them and pass 5 yards so sahko is a big loss too. Can was deployed there v Swansea and it really took him out of the game.
