Liverpool's next fixture takes them to Newcastle United in the Barclays Premier League on the back of a four-match winning run.
Last time out, the Reds set up a Capital One Cup semi-final with Stoke City by comprehensively beating Southampton 6-1 away from home in midweek.
Jürgen Klopp's side return to league duties with a trip to St. James' Park for a Sunday afternoon kick-off against the Magpies.
In the corresponding game of last season, Liverpool were defeated 1-0 in the north east.

Feel as if Newcastle are a wounded animal and could see this fixture as a pivot to change their fortunes.. Despite their form they're always a dangerous side and we don't have the best of record away to them..

Don't see Sturridge playing as he played the full 90 yesterday so maybe a return for Benteke, or perhaps Origi/Firmino coming in with Coutinho.

Also Can is now suspended, Allen played well last night but partly hoping Henderson is fit enough to start, pair him up with Lucas in the centre with Milner just ahead.

    Lot's of options, I like it <ok>

By the way, nice thread Luv <cheers>

He went off at about 60 mins.

Pity Can will be missing but we have options, we need to go at them and I would suggest a Benteke start as their center backs are not the biggest, there's an opportunity to bully them here I'd go..............

    Mingo
    Clyne Skrtel Lovren Moreno
    Allen Lucas Hendo
    Firmino
    Studge Benteke

I'd sooner start Origi ahead of Benteke - pace and movement will unlock most defences and that style of play has seen some of our best performances this season.

Wouldn't want to disrupt it by putting in a target man.

You could be right but horses for courses I think putting him in there to occupy the center backs will create more space for others to exploit, unlike if he had started against Man City where the 2 big lumpers would have enjoyed the challenge the Newcastle defenders will not and he'll have some joy in there. Play mobile players with and around him and we will still have pace and movement.

Wouldnt normally agree but after scoring a hatrick he can't be left out surely?

I I reckon Sturridge might start again n do another 60 mins...

It doesn't occupy defenders though - a big target man is easy to defend against especially when he hasn't got runners going beyond which we don't have.

We've seen little movement in our attack whenever he has played.

Our best attacking performances have come when someone like Firmino, Sturridge or Origi have led the line. That's the style we need to play - defenders love physical challenges but they hate pace and being dragged out of position.

I'm not sure - I'm not really a fan of the diamond as we looked quite vulnerable from a defensive viewpoint.

Would like for us to stick to the 4321 or 4231.

Some defenders like a physical challenge, the Newcastle pair do not. I'd play Studge up with him so there will be runners and still play Firminho so there is movement. We'll see on the weekend.

  14. I'm not convinced this is going to be toe forgone conclusion people think it will be. I don't see Newcastle playing like the home team in this, I think they'll try to keep it tight and let us have the ball meaning we'll need to find a way of breaking them down, something we struggle with hence our record at Anfield recently.

This is probably our easiest fixture for a long time. It will be over by half time as we are playing away to a team with a poor defence. Their gameplay will suit us. McClaren has been really poor and cannot seem to motivate his team and will fall into Klopp's trap. He will set his team to attack and with his defence in sambles will be picked by Sturridge and/or Benteke.

    1-3 or 1-4 to us. Sturridge getting a brace.<ok>

They are beyond **** but there are no bankers in this league, there are upsets week in week out which is why 6 points separate 1st and 6th!

Hopefully the players approach it like the city game.

  19. The shocking thing is, Villa, Sunderland and Bournemouth are worse.
