Fans have short memory in that regard. United was great to watch when Luke was in the side. Heck, Mourinho doesn't face as much criticism as LVG. Why is that? Overall, we simply don't have the right players in the third half of the pitch and haven't replaced the once that left. Memphis is going to take a while to long to adapt. Herrera is probably our best outfield player and brings the best out of the team when he plays, including Martial.
He doesn't get a lot of credit because apart from on very few occasions the style of football and performances have been poor for a team that has had so much invested in it. The reality is given the resources available to him he hasn't achieved anything above what should be expected. He shouldn't get all of the blame but he should get a lot of it. He's turned creative players into ineffective robots. If it was one or two of them you'd put it down to poor form. As it is it's all of them apart from Herrera who only gets a game when someone else is injured or he's been too good to drop. I think the players lack confidence because they know that, apart from Rooney, every one of them will get roasted for making the slightest mistake. That disinterested looking man with the clipboard is constantly making notes!
No doubt you're going to insist that that's what I posted. It's what you do, you jump in, give the sarcy response you believe in and then insist that it was what someone else said. The problem is it's documented so you just look childish.
As I said Herrera only gets a game when the manager has no choice but to pick him. He's too adventurous for LVG's style.
I think the term negative is over used. In my book, packing the bus like Mourinho is what I class as negative play. Not playing tight possession football. Every damn successful club in Europe play that style of football. It is exactly why English clubs can't light a candle to Barca and Bayern because we only see a gung-ho uncalculated risk type of football. Pretty much Leicester type of play. Would Leicester have a chance of ever winning that game yesterday if we had cohesion in the final half? Absolutely not! As for Shaw's impact; I would say that is a resounding YES! His impact is that much. And I was afraid of that when he broke his leg. Think of what Ashley Cole was to for Arsenal of 2004 and in his Chelsea years. Shaw is an expansive player and that forces the likes of Depay on the attacking left to match his level of play. Darmian was doing that too on the right side but we currently lack a natural right winger which means our right side is wasted with each match. Chemistry is a hard subject. You take a single element out of a compound and it becomes infinitely harder to balance the equation. This is why I think changing the manager without plugging the gaps int the team would yield very little result other than what we have.
Guess which player has assisted Messi more than any and then re asses your view on fullbacks. Very important in today's game.
Neville summed it up perfectly and he'sfar from a van Gaal fan. Were 1 or 2 players short of walking this league. That's how fine the margin is and why even van Gaals most vocal critics (in the media) have even come to see it.
Then you come out with this beaut. Herrera is injured. Incase you didnt know. He's had quite a few injuries too since joining so are you sure he's always dropped? Herrera has spoken of his good relationship with van Gaal. Where do you get the idea he is really unhappy here?
So you genuinely believe that our negative style of play is a result of Luke Shaw getting injured? That's up there with your belief that Martial was shifted out to the left wing to help him learn how to be a better striker. It's astonishingly silly stuff that makes me wonder at times whether you're a spoof account. Perhaps luvgonzo!
Herrera is injured just now. Hence not playing. His obsession with Rooney is worrying. What if Pep came and played Rooney. Not worth thinking about
But sadly for you it's documented so your "la la la la la" fingers in ears, eyes shut approach just doesn't work.
Nope. But a full backs role is very important to both attack and defence. Losing Shaw reduced our number of attacking players and support for those players. Memphis was just starting tk build up an understanding and Shaw was seriously stepping up into the player we all hoped he would he. Losing arguably your fastest player is always going to impact the attack though and Shaw's a contender for pur fastest player. The fact you fail to acknowledge this is on you, Stan.
Herrera was struggling for game time, was then picked out of necessity, played well and therefore couldn't be dropped so we saw Rooney up top and Martial on the wing. To learn his trade as a striker apparently (astonishingly stupid comment!) Players don't tend to slag the manager off in public, even when they're frustrated. It doesn't usually get them a positive result! Are you so far up LVG's arse that you can't even comprehend that?! Seriously pal, maybe you should try playing solitaire!
I've acknowledged Shaw's injury meant we were less attacking from his position (that's documented - this is a concept you seem to struggle with, perhaps you'd be better off in verbal debates as you can just insist you are right based on what was previously said and no one can prove otherwise). But to suggest that a move to a very negative style of football is based on an injury to a full back is just comedy capers pal. If a Dipper said something like that you'd have to take a day off work.
Well nobody is spared when it comes to LVG being absolved of blame for the way the players perform. You've mentioned Herrera as probably our one of our most creative midfielders (which I'd agree with) but apparently he too was slated to save LVG. Apparently out of form bcos he scuffed a shot on goal despite never having been highlighted as having a poor game. The excuses seem to be made up as we go along. It's things like this that I find hard to understand. It seems like extreme lengths to go to, to try to cover for the manager.
I've said it before. He's just our version of Astro who was the same with Rodgers right up until the day Brendan took a step back, zipped up his fly and bade Astro a sad farewell.
