Lee Barnard has today extended his current contract until 2014.

Great news I'd say, a great player, hard worker and scores goals. Vital to the team.

It would suggest to me that the club are fairly confident that he wont get a prison sentence when he returns to court.

I'm sure that we wouldn't take a decision like this lightly if he was a dead cert for jail (clubs lawyers surely would have given Cortese an opinion?)

Adkins has instilled a great team spirit and it looks like we will be keeping this rather than panic buying like so many think we should. Spot on Saints.

Even with this I'd still say we need a striker. Who do we have who can play up front - Lambert, not proven above League One but I'm confident he'll be fine. Barnard, also not proven above League One, less confident he'll be good but still, give him the opportunities and he'll be fine. Connolly, I'm one of the few who isn't convinced, was very good towards the end of last season but has been far too in and out before then, doesn't have the legs to last a whole season anyway. Forte, certainly not a good enough goal scorer. Guly, better in midfield. Hoskins and Doble, far too inexperienced. We certainly need someone to make up the numbers there.

Good news. So we will have exactly the same squad as last season plus Jack Cork. Just need that CB now!

I agree we have a brilliant team but the Majority of our strike force is untested in the Championship and 2 out of 4 of our CB's our untried in the Championship (not including Cork as a CB) Would be good to bring in more experience.

Great news, i have a feeling he might be better adapted to the championship than lambert, he works hard and never stops running, if it wasn't for injuries last year he would have been one of our key players. The amount of times he came on and changed games shows how good he really is. I don't think there is much threat from the court case, the club wouldn't have given him a new contract if there were.

Certainly suggests that they don't think he will go to gaol and that they aren't considering letting him go. May also suggest that they are having trouble signing a good striker to replace him, but then, like all football fans, I'm paranoid.

Great News .

As said previously I doubt the Club would have offered him an extesion iof they felt there was a chance of him being Guilty .

Great Te4am Player

Brilliant news, I think Barnard is one of our most important players and I think I am right in saying that since he signed for us, his goals per minutes played ratio is higher than Lambert.

Good news, the more I see the shirt, the more I like it.

Great news! I love Lee and now I can get him on the back of my shirt without the fear of him leaving :D

Does that show an intention to stand by the chap if he is convicted of a criminal offence?
Do you think Saints have a choice?
I didn't realise his contract was up but it does seem to appear that Saints have decided to stand by him.
So how does that make you fans feel?
Are saints right or wrong?

He had one year left so has been given an extra 2 yrs. There is talk that negotiations are going on about him pleading guilty to a lesser charge, but I would have thought that they would have done that before now. Club obviously confident that he isn't facing a prison sentence.
