Not many (if any) would follow the women's Ultimate Fighting Championship but just in case the Bantamweight World Champion, previously undefeated in 12 previous fights (the last 4 lasted 64 seconds combined) was sensationally knocked out by undefeated challenger Holly Holm in the second round here in Melbourne tonight. Holm was at long odds but dominated the short fight.
She's the biggest thing in UFC, a bigger draw than McGregor and Jones, UFC definitely leading the way in shutting down the 'women less entertaining than men' stereotype. Massive kick to the face, but with her type of domination complacency was always going to set in. It's how she recovers from this which will make or break her legacy.
Rousey has all the tools but she learned that she's not there yet last night. She was over confident at the weigh in, she got hit by a top class puncher and she's never had that before. I'm certain she'll come back, when she puts her red carpet heels away and gets back to what she knows best. McGregor should take note of this fight, he's way too cocky going into the fight on 12/12 and he needs to box away all the drama if he stands a chance at putting Aldo away.
Too busy modelling, acting, giving interviews bitching about people. Rousey is unbelievable, regardless of this result but this shows she's very human. When she thought she was better than that. She got complacent, over confident, distracted, knocked the **** out.
Nightmare I didn't realize it'd already been put up. Yes she was totally dominated. Hollys game plan was spot on .
What was worst was Rousey's inability to think on her feet. 2 minutes in to that fight anyone with anything about them would stop walking straight into punches. She was arrogant.
Yes very arrogant. I bet she gets a rematch in a few months time. I just hope Connor McGregor doesn't make the same mistake next month.
McGregor hasn't got the skills required to beat Aldo. Aldo will take him straight to the floor and the fight will be over very quickly. McGregor has to knock Aldo out standing up or he's got no chance. He got lucky against Mendez.
She'll get all the chances they can give her mate... She's too box office for them to shelf her. In reality I do really rate her, just think she got ridiculously carried away with all of the fame and its trappings. A rematch would be interesting. I like McGregor but he talks wayyyyyy too much and none of his ****ing suits fit. The Aldo fight will be good I reckon. Think Conor has more on the floor than a lot think and don't think Aldo will go easy on his feet either.
I really don't rate his floor game, it's what will stop him being a great in the sport. He looked uncomfortable against Mendez and I seen him panicking when he asked the referee to let them get back on their feet. They weren't in a clinch or anything, he was simply getting pounded and couldn't get out of it. Asking the ref for help was desperation. Mind, he has easily the most power in that division and could easily wipe out Aldo with one good dig or kick.
No. No. No. Watching 2 women beat the **** out of each other is just wrong. Where's the oil, the mud?
She fought the wrong tactics. On the ground she is almost unbeatable, you don't win a judo bronze medal easily, when it comes to grappling she will beat just about anyone, so why she tried to box against a boxer is beyond me. I am sure there will be a re-match and if she gets Holm on the ground she will win. You have to say this opens up a massive re-match and if she wins and even bigger 3rd fight. Then a possible match against Cris Cyborg. The money for all those matches will be frightening, this could be the best thing for the sport and her career earnings.
Both fighters are tailor made to beat eachother which is gona make it an awesome fight. Connors long legs will be a big target for Aldos leg kicks, but Connor does alot of sneaky body kicks that drain the energy out of opponents then he moves in for the kill like we saw in the Mendez fight. Aldo tends to gas quite alot if he can be taken the distance. My tip is a very close McGregor win by TKO.
To be fair Mendez is probably the best wrestler in that division so Connor was always gona spend some time on his back. I think that fight showed he can cope against fighting a strong wrestler which most critics said he wouldn't. Aldo won't have the same ability to get Connor down like that.
