A man with temperament issues which held him back. To be fair the U21s and U18s seem to have improved recently. How much is down to his help I couldn't comment on but he was a decent player and could be a decent coach. So long as he behaves himself.

Lee Bowyer’s coaching spell with Watford has come to an end but Hornets' head of Academy Chris McGuane hasn’t ruled out the former Leeds United midfielder becoming a permanent member of the Academy staff.

Bowyer spent over a month with the Golden Boys as a guest of Under-21s coach Harry Kewell and worked closely with the Hornets’ youngsters.

However, he wasn’t in attendance this evening as Watford were beaten 2-1 by Charlton Athletic in the Under-21 Premier League Cup and McGuane confirmed after that defeat the former England international has left the club.

“He (Bowyer) is back fishing and on holiday,” McGuane said. “He came in for a period of time so we could take a look at him and he could take a look at us.

“We will have a conversation but it is a pre-planned holiday we knew about. So he is away and we will sit down and think about what we want to do.

"We haven’t done that yet so there is no news at the moment on that front.”

When asked what Bowyer brought to Watford during his short time at the club, McGuane added: “He has a wealth of knowledge. I can’t even think of the amount of games he has played at the top level. But Lee is keen and wants to learn.”

He continued: “Lee is a football person and anyone who wants to talk about football I am all ears for.

"You want to spend time and surround yourself with people who want to talk about the game and want to improve themselves and the players they coach. I have a lot of time for people who want to develop and improve.”

If nothing else he isn't exactly an experienced coach - might be ok in certain areas but will be lacking in others.
