Thomas Edison didn't invent the lightbulb. He improved upon the design. A number of people made light bulbs before him.
Lets keep it real, he invented the light bulb.
Other people contributed before him, inventing ways to create stable light sources using electricity, and inventing some of the copper wiring to conduct it properly.
But he invented the bulb.
Thats like attributing the invention of cars to cavemen because they invented the wheel.

No. He really didn't. Some German was the first person to make a self contained glass dome which when electric current was passed through it lit up.

Swan created the first modern lightbulb. Edison created a replica a year later... Got sued by Swan for stealing his design and they settled out of court by Edison paying off Swan and buying Swan's patent.

Edison didn't invent most of the things he is credited with. He bought other peoples patents and over the years people have been crediting him. Edison was a clever man but more so in business.

It's fair to say he "popularised" the light bulb but his initial design was almost identical to Swan's from a year earlier. It's like people credit Apple with inventing the MP3 player, smartphone, and smartwatch. They didn't invent any of those things. Were beaten to the market on all 4. They just popularised the..

"Some German" <laugh> ok.
Swans bulb was ****, lasted minutes due to a lack of Oxygen in the vacuum. So the bulb couldn't ignite properly, it was completely useless and not fit for purpose.
Again, Edison took a lot of the components and made them fit for purpose, which is why he is known as the guy who made the lightbulb, because his actually worked as intended.

Edison's original bulb pattented didn't last any longer than Swan's. It was essentially Swan's pattent redone and resubmitted in the US. After Edison bought out Swan though and formed Ediswan longer lasting bulbs were developed... And who provided the technology for those...

Swan. Edison was the business promoter. Swan did all the technology advancement in the early Ediswan.

Interesting <ok>
I knew Edison bought out Swan then his company made the bulb work properly, wasn't aware he actually employed Swan himself to do the rework!
