Well I'm blowed. I didn't know we had Aston Villa's *Gary Shaw through our Academy all those years ago. Must have popped out in the mid-80's.! Then his son Luke came through. Of course, it all makes sense. :)



* Some of you will think I really believe Gary Shaw came through us. And others will be correct.
 
He was pretty damn good. On the fringes of an England call-up, but never got one, if memory serves. Those were the days of Villa's last rise to real prominence.

Yep. I think he got a cap or two. Retired early due to knee injury.

Just looked it up. 7 x U21 caps. No senior caps. Started at Villa in 78 and was key player in their Title and European Cup winning teams of 1981 and 1982, but in ten years at Villa only played 165 games. Not sure when the knee injury happened, but wrecked his career.

Yeah, I looked that up afterwards too. Picked off the ground by Ian Bowyer. He was a wiry midfielder who used to put himself about a bit. 165 matches for Villa suggests about 3 to 4 seasons into his career [42 games per], but could be more.
