Ian Bell: "Today was about grinding out a day of Test batting. It wasn't going to be the best-looking style of cricket, but about trying to get a lead." That would explain his 25.32 strike rate. Doesn't explain the strike rates of the other batsmen who got a start, Cook 41.18, Taylor 52.48, Bairstow 39.36. The thing is Bell genuinely believes the **** he comes out with.
He's been ruled out of bowling again so hopefully we won't have to risk him with bat either. No need if these two crack on
Strong position.. Avoid a collapse in the morning, build a lead of 100 or so, and its really a game England shouldn't lose..
A lead of 70... Not ideal but it's a start I guess. Bowl then out for under 200 and should be favourites to win this.
Knocked the first 30 off far too easy....felt we needed a lead of 100+ especially with Stokes not bowling. Could do with a wicket or two before they get level.
Chasing 200+ on that track won't be easy... A wicket or two before scores are level is a must, keep the pressure on..
With a seamer down, can't expect Broad and Jimmy to bowl too many overs... The Spinners need to tighten up or England will be lucky to be chasing just the 200... Nearly level already!
Problem is our spinners are too expensive. They are too good against spin so they can't do a containing job and given they are bowling the bulk of the overs, allows Pakistan to score freely. Could be in trouble here
Pakistan are 74-3... If 220 is set, with Pakistan's spinners, it could/will be a tough ask.. It's already showing indifferent bounce!
225-4..............the lead is over 150 now.........England will be chasing at least 250 at this rate
