Rooney has had no good moments?

You're erasing history there Shwan, he's United's second highest goal scorer ever. He will more than likely break Charlton's record unless, as a good few of you on here would seem to like, he's ridden roughshod out of the club for a drop in form.

By comparison, Depay has done zero for the club. Zilch.

Now, I'm not saying Depay should be slated for this, I for one am not as I understand he's young and at a new club in a new country, but he's as deserving of being dropped as anyone so his 'good moments' are pretty irrelevant. I also agree he will (probably) improve whereas Rooney is on his way down and won't.

I just believe that he should start the derby as club captain. As Lostboi says, Mourinho dropped Casillas. And the Real squad turned against him and Mourinho was ultimately sacked.
Not saying that will happen but I am saying it's a big shout to drop your club captain right before the biggest game of the season, it will impact on the team, Definitely.

If he plays and stinks the place out then yes, he should be dropped for the next game, take him out of the firing line. The lack of pace and drive throughout the side is not down to Rooney though.

This is where you're contradicting yourself.

What exactly has Depay done to deserve being in ahead of Rooney bar be totally ineffective and borderline useless for the last half dozen games or so? What exactly is he offering? If you'd said Young then fair enough.

Interested in your answer.

Look, Depay plays left wing while rooney plays as a striker or no 10. Depay may not have played well this season, but rooney is worse. And do u want to play rooney on left wing? Lol. With injury to young Depay is the only option on left wing. Also Depay is unpredictable and will surely improve, rooney on the other hand doesn't have any more thing to offer to be honest. His movement is so predictable, even a 5 year old already knows what he's going to do with the ball once the ball is on his foot.

That is

That is the difference between mourinho and lvg (I'm not a fan of mourinho though). Mourinho knows he would leave real by the end of the season anyway so he played a team that he believes will win him something. Lvg would probably not be here next season, or he has one season left for him max, so why would he keep playing someone who is underperforming especially when there are others better in his position. If u ask me he is ruining the team by making someone untouchable. I mean is schweinstergger not the captain of Germany? Why does he sub him then?

I am in a ship in the middle of the carribbean :( I was desperate to follow but only got slow updates from the bbc. So what's the general consensus on the match?

I get that a draw was a good result? A point in a tight group should not be sniffed at. We just need to win our home games now. We specially need to win the psv match well.

Rooney it seems had an average game again. I am sure he'll come good. But if his poor form persists it nay be time fir LVG to rest him or play him from the bench.

Bring on City. We have nothing to fear from them as long as we don't **** up in the first 30 minutes like we did against arsenal.

<ok>

****ing stay there, you bitter, nasty ****house.

Fair bit of over reaction in this thread fuelled (and bizarrely believed) by a couple of non-United fans.

It wasn't a great performance, it was a performance that suggested we were happy with a point. Going to Russia and winning is not easy. How many games do the Russian teams lose at home in the CL? Martial gave away a silly penalty which made it an even more difficult task. He then scored a cracking goal. We can add heading to the list of things he's potentially awesome at. Herrera is a superb player. I really do hope LVG can see that as the lad has to start every big game.

It's not the hardest group but it's certainly not the easiest. CSKA are top of the Russian league, so far undefeated. PSV have lost 1 league game this season, undefeated at home. Wolfsburg are no mugs, they finished 2nd in the league last season, we finished 4th! It's a group we should get out of but anyone who thought we'd walk it is deluded or has forgotten where United are in their current cycle. Win our two remaining home games and it's sorted.

It shows the shift between the two clubs when a draw away to Kiev is considered a great performance and result for Chelsea whereas a draw away to CSKA is considered a poor performance and result for United. Who would have thunk it at the end of last season.

<ok>

I'm a fan of Memphis bit totally agree with Chief. He's been really poor and in no way deserves to replace Rooney.

I want to see Wilson up top though. Alongside Martial.

Sorry, I don't know what lol means but no, I don't want Rooney to play left wing.

I don't recall saying it either.

But Memphis is not replacing rooney, they play totally different positions. Rooney would be worse playing on the left wing, so I see no way one affects each other. The main competitor for Memphis is young who is injured.

The main problem is shifting martial to the left so as rooney can play in the middle. That's not only the problem, after all rooney has always been playing behind martial, but then the manager realised that herrera is better off being the 3rd man in midfield/no 10 than rooney, so to play him he has to let rooney play upfront and make martial play on the left. Let's all be truthful, our attack looks more dangerous when martial plays as striker rather than rooney.

I'd have happily taken a draw before the start of the game, I'm not at all sure what people are expecting to be honest. Since when did these games away in Russia become easy and that we should win? That has never been the case and seeing as English football is currently across the board utterly awful in Europe this is a result.

To paraphrase Sven in reverse; first half not so good, second half good. I actually thought we were ok though and by the end probably should have sneaked it.

Obvious changes for Sunday are Mata and Darmian will be back and it's clear Blind should be left back ahead of Rojo. Other than that I would keep it as it is, including Rooney being in the side.

I don't see dropping the captain for the seasons biggest game as the way to go really. It would have a negative effect on the side.

I would have taken a point before the game. But then you watch the game and you naturally adjust based on the nature of the opposition. I was expecting CSKA to be tough opponents, physically more used to the conditions, well organised and able to drive forward. I.e. typically difficult to beat or get a draw against. But they were poor. We dominated large parts of the game but rarely troubled them. They were always comfortable. We're just not clinical enough in our forward play. There were times when the ball was played to feet with back to goal and acres of space behind, and instead of turning with the ball and running into that space and attacking their goal, we had the usual pass back or sideways.

In this instance I think the game was there to be won tbh. We looked devoid of ideas and as I've said before, if we play a defensively naive team we'll win, but if when we come up against a well organised defence with an aggressive attack, we get found out. I dont think that will change against City.

I can't pretend to enjoy or agree with our current style of play, I just don't think we were as bad as some made out last night.

CSKA were up for it first half. They bottled the second. We should have won, we were comfortably the better side but you take a point in Russia, no matter what. Its a tough place to go for any club.

We now need to beat these and PSV.

am not a fan of history .. we leave that to Loserpool fans they are expert on it hhhhh
I admit, that benching the captain is problematic and I think I said something like that somewhere here
but all imo depend how manager can handle it without upsetting the captain and the team .. i look to Sir Alex and I think he would had done it without causing a problem, communication and being authoritative is part of managerial skills. but seem LVG can't do that, may he don't have that skill.
I care less about history, otherwise i would had kept RVP or vidic, when a player under preforming for many matches, he need to be benched ..is simple ... IF I was a UTD player who costed 30m £ and LVG benched me bcz I was inconsistent, i will be gutted if seen that rules apply on some but not all.
poor herrera impressed in 2-3 matches, what LVG come and say " herrera form will cause a problem bcz i can't bench him anymore".. why causing a problem? bcz fkn Rooney is unbenchable, instead you see the whole set up been changed to accommodate the King Rooney with Martial being pushed to the left wing. what i would had done is I would had told Rooney "you are 30 we need you fit , so you will play once a week to rest" instead of watching him play 3 times a week, and Rooney just getting more tired which make even his form worst ...
LVG totally dealing with Rooney problem in the wrong way..Sir Alex would had find a solution .. and IF Rooney is not improving .. i will not blame him, he is not drop-able, so he can continue his **** form as much as he wants
.

I give a sh!t about the great history any player had in any club, time change fast around us and we should adopt to changes and accept it ..I care less about Rooney history , we should judge him on what he offer really on the pitch... nothing more nothing less
