31 but his game has never been about speed so should be good for a few more years.

Him and Henderson could boss it in midfield.

Mascherano would be brilliant but we should be looking for the next Mascherano.

Neves, Carvalho are top DM prospects.

    I'd like both.

Mascherano would bring experience and leadership with him, as well as being the best in the world in his position(IMO). I'd go as far as to make him vice captain.

    Henderson Mascherano

    Can Neves

Milner is a wide player now.

  5. You must have watched a different Mascherano to me!

His pace and acceleration were quality, they were the reason he was so good at covering the space left by FBs. He was also the linchpin to our counter attacks under Rafa!

The next Mash may take a few years

He was more about reading the game and pulling off impossible tackles. He always knew where to be and how to tackle anyone.

Wouldn't say Mash was very quick but he was no slouch - similar to Suarez. It was his positioning, reading of the game and anticipation which made him so good. One of Rafa's best buys.

  8. He read's the game very well but he was (don't know if he still is) also very quick. Add the ability to tackle and it was why he's been regarding as one of, if not the best in the world at DM

Former AC Milan, Chelsea and Real Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti, 56, says he was not approached by Liverpool before the club appointed Jurgen Klopp as their new manager. (Goal)
    Harry Redknapp <doh>

Klopp believes he has the "complete footballer" at his disposal - 29-year-old England midfielder James Milner. (Star)

I may need to re-watch him because I don't remember being that quick - all I remember is that he was boss at what he did!

Would definitely have him - perfect partner for Sakho, and he's at an age which won't hinder the youngsters like Ilori and Gomez coming through. A real leader, and versatile defender who can pretty much play across the back line. I think injuries and lack of speed are a weakness but his reading of the game is superb.

remember him for being a vicious little batard in the tackle, hard but fair, we need that back, not necessarily in the form of JM tho

Wow - amazing. Love him as a player. The fact that we still miss him shows us how you how good he has been. Lucas isn't fit enough to lace his boots.

It's that tackle. He's got it down as a science. Without that tackle he'd be pretty ordinary... Still great awareness and positioning but overall ordinary.

With that tackle he becomes like a superhero.

Mash-man the superhero with the amazing incredibly long tackle.

Mascherano is a bit old now, unless it was just a year or two contract. Lets not forget his love for Liverpool, when he won the champions league against utd, he said that he did that for Liverpool fans.

    31. If he joined us at 32 He could still have 2 or 3 good seasons left in him before he started to go bad (in today's game how many people stay much longer than that anyway). As said earlier, he was never the quickest player but he read the game well, had great positioning and was amazing at tackling.

His style of play is one that shouldn't deteriorate too quickly with age.

    Loved a slide tackle <ok>

He wasn't quick but had a good burst of acceleration which is what helped. Brilliant player and the best DM in world football when Barca signed him. Shame they converted him into an ok CB.
