Sam Allardyce confirmed as Sunderland manager. A good appointment by them and I fear they will pull off the great escape once again.

As i Said Klopp to Liverpool Allardyce to Sunderland. I called it months ago. Gutted. Big Sam will save Sh*tealand again. Freeing up another relegation place.

Alex Tettey scored the first goal for Norway (it's now 2-0) to put them currently second in group H.
Croatia, currently 3rd, 2 points behind Norway as it stands, play Bulgaria later tonight.

Krul is out for the rest of the season, leaving Newcastle with Rob Elliott, and a 18 year old they've recalled from Fleetwood.

Good timing for us at least.

Wow! Newcastle are under amazing pressure now! Shame we don't have a goal scorer. Unless our midfielders score, could finished 0-0.

We haven't really struggled scoring goals, this could be a good opportunity. But how much betting their 3rd choice goalkeeper will have the performance of his life?

Nothing against Jerome, I think he works hard for the team, but I think Mbokani should start a few games, scored for us in the last game and for his country at the weekend (and also on a 37-man shortlist for African Player of the Year) Worth giving him more playing time imo.

To be fair we only ever play one striker so strikers is pushing it a bit. Other than Jerome none of our other strikers have had that many minutes on the pitch to actually contribute anything. I would imagine Dieumerci probably averages better than a goal every 90 minutes by virtue of a lack of minutes rather than a glut of goals.

CJ gives a Hell of a lot to the team but he is not a clinical finisher. A lot of his good work has been in creating gaps for the midfield to exploit and harassing defences into errors.

Agree about CJ. not putting him down. I love him. Got the kind of effort of Holt. I can't see him scoring enough though. I'd love to see him dropping off, running and working, with a poacher/finisher ahead of him. or when he goes wide, someone who gets to the 6 yard box!

I fear for Newcastle, but it was them that appointed McLaren and the fickle fans can possibly now appreciate what a great job Pardew was doing. His only crime was being a Londoner. The Krul injury is shocking and does put the team under pressure but it is that adversity that may give them more fighting spirit. Sunday will be interesting but we ought to get something.

Big game for Alex Tettey and Norway tonight. They're two points ahead of Croatia, BUT Croatia are playing Malta (in Malta) - almost certainly going to be a win for Croatia.

Thus, Norway will in all likeliness need to beat an already qualified Italy (in Italy). If they do it, they'll win the group!
