Never have so many words been written by so many about nothing! Feeling a little left out, I have decided to contribute to this amorphous mass of nothingness. After all we only have until the 31st August to sort things out. The list of potential Spurs signings is endless and nearly as long is the list of those about to leave. I think I have the message that we need to sell before we buy. Right 3 seconds to absorb that. Absorbed! Everyday I log on to not606 expecting to see some earth shaking news, the NEW STRIKER has arrived, Crouch has signed for Barcelona, King has two new knees and will play forever. Keane finally has his dream move to Corinthian Casuals, Dawson is the new captain of England and Mancini refuses to manage a football team that does not have 11 players behind the ball. Wenger has been awarded a stainless steel water bottle with a cutting edge, just like his stainless, blameless football team minus the cutting edge. Big Ron returns as the Nigerian national coach a role he will share with the minister of overseas development. Sir Alec retires to spend more time with his money, and Giggs has a new gig working for relate. Now all this would be news and worth spending a pound on a newspaper to read, sadly it is not to be seen, just the same old tired rumours going round in endless circles. They say there are only 3 jokes in the whole world with just endless variations, I'll tell you what there is only ONE football rumour and I have bloody well heard it.
I feel pretty much the same way - but being the eternal optimist I note we got fifth last year with our entire strikeforce pretty much awol throughout. So even the current lot might do all right next season if the strikers can play nearer their best.
If that happens, Levy & Harry are not gonna be too popular. Like most fans, I'm getting a little tired of hearing about what we're GOING to do, when what actually seem to be doing, is **** all!
I wish we could fastforward 'til something interesting happens. I think it's our impatience for real football to start again that drives us to endless distraction and rumours.
I've got to be honest, Spurf. Reading the title I thought this was going to be an article about us being linked to Freddie Ado
What are your thoughts on the non transfer activity? Friedal and the young striker isnt enough to improve us. I know Harry normally works his magic at the end of the Transfer Window and im not going into panic mode but i see teams around us improving their squads. Time to sell and buy in
With every transfer day that passes I am more firmly convinced that there is a problem at Spurs. And the problem I think is this... Harry has identified that we need '2 or 3' players to take the team to the next level DL has said we need to sell the deadwood before we can buy No-one wants our fringe players as they are on good contracts The players we need are either already at another club now, or will be soon We will start the season with the same team and lose 4 of our first 6 fixtures We will panic buy, overpaying for mediocre players The only decent signing we will make will be to replace the departed Luka January will come, we will be way off the pace for the CL next season, will be out of two of the three cups, and will lose more players with ineffectual replacements coming in. We will end the season 8th, not in Europe for the 2012-13 season, but Harry will get the England job. We will overpay for a replacement Manager, and have to start all over again, losing at least 2 of the following next summer - Bale, Lennon, VDV, Sandro, Huddlestone. I'm such a cheerful soul sometimes.
I'm a pessimist, what can I say!!! Although, have you seen anything from Spurs that counters what I have said?
was there really a need for a new thread on this? you can choose pretty much any thread related to "strikers" or "modric" and you'll have your answer. unless you're wumming; in which case, well done, you got me.
Hopefully something will happen quickly once the squad is back from South Africa, but I'm not going to hold my breath.
Can everyone stop being so down on people that don't create many articles, please? Make helpful suggestions or just ignore the thread, if you don't like it.
Therein lies some of the problem: Harry's record at choosing players to spend on is pretty uneven I think and the squad is too big. So Levy probably says to him 'how much are the guys you want to get rid of worth and how much would you pay to get these guys you want in.' Harry has to overestimate the first (at least for his own signings) to avoid looking like a plonker so we never sell anyone - so we can't buy.
Once again, I'll just point out that all clubs in European competition next season will be compliant with the Financial Fair Play rules - which means all clubs will have to balance the books so they don't make a loss of over £40m. This is why Man City have done a dodgy deal to sell the naming rights to their stadium, why Chelsea are trying to temp us with derisory bids for Modric, and why Liverpool and Sunderland can chuck as much money over a cliff as they like as they don't have to comply. Which, essentially, means there's yet another reason we should've brought in a top quality striker in January...
with all due respect PNP, there's two ways of looking at this. maybe my sarcasm was a little in appropriate and rude. I apologise to the OP. - sorry. But at the same time, there are some of us who want to see the board kept clean, factual and interesting. Repeated thread's, that constantly bring up the same topic of conversation are just damn right lazy and disrespectful to the users who have spent the time writing something decent in the first instance. - especially when the repeated thread add's nothing of value or has any twist on what has already been spoken about. the original thread on the topic just sinks to the bottom of the pile. it was a pet hate on mine on BBC 606, but thus far this site has been very well run, i must say. maybe i'm way off the pace here, but i think this board will retain credibility if it's kept concise. unlike bbc 606, which turned into a joke by the end.
