What would your best starting 11 be, when everyone is fit to start?
Plus, what formation would you play?

    Mine:

    -------------------------------------Smithies---------------------------------
    Onuoha-------------------Hall------------------Hill-----------Konchesky
    -----------------------------Sandro-----------Faurlin-----------------------
    ----------------------------------------Fer-------------------------------------
    Phillips----------------------------Austin-----------------------------Chery

    4-3-3.

I'd pick the same players and go with a 433 or 4231 depending on the opponent. That is assuming that they all play to their full ability.

I like the setup/formation. Only a couple of changes for me. I'm a big fan of Faurlin but believe as soon as Tozser gets match fit and his sharpnes we will see he's a superior player, and he's strong from set pieces as well. Hill is a player I'd like to see used more. With Hill as centre back we'll see the best from Onuoha, just like when he was partnered with Dunne. And Furlong needs to get his chance as Perch has looked pants. Still think we'll see better from him though.

    -------------------------------------Smithies---------------------------------
    Furlong---------------Onuoha-----------------Hill-----------Konchesky
    ----------------------------Sandro-----------Tozser------------------------
    ----------------------------------------Fer-------------------------------------
    Phillips----------------------------Austin-----------------------------Chery

If Furlong comes back, then I wouldn't mind him being given a go and move Ned back to CB.
I hope you're right about Toszer...........I haven't been impressed so far. It would certainly be nice to have better set pieces.

    No idea
Because of form and how any team would work together
So far it's looks very disjointed
Sandro and Fer coming back could change a lot
Looks like there are loads of goals in our games can't understand how that can't be a positive
To simply say the problem is defence is crazy
Whole team should grow into something given the quality of the players we have

CR doing well IMO and we are a lot better off in the table than I thought

From the highlights and all the comments I have read about Jet on Saturday I can't see how he could be left out. As Austin he scored, but unlike Austin seems he contributed to our build up play.

I'm very unsure about the back 4 but erring on experience to sort things best now. In 4 2 3 1

    ------------Smithies------------

    Perch Onouha Clint Konchesky

    -----------Luongo---Sandro--------

    Phillips------Fer-------Chery------

    ---------------------Jet----------------

I believe our strongest team, in a 4-2-3-1 formation, is something as below, although I have doubts over the positions marked with an asterix (*). Yes, there are quite a few asterisks!.

    ------------------------------- Green* ----------------------------
----- Perch* --------Onuoha* -----Hall* ------- YUN-----
    ------------------- SANDRO -------------Faurlin* ---------------
    ---------PHILLIPS-----------FER --------------CHERY---
    ------------------------------ AUSTIN ------------------------------

I would like to see us occassionally play 4-4-2 with Austin and JET up front (similar to successfull "Charlie-OBZ" partnership). I would willingly draw it, but I have severe issues in defining the midfield. Perhaps the issue is that 4-2-3-1 seems to be a better utilisation of our current players.

I believe that if Ramsay was willing to settle for mid table mediocrcy than surely he would have given Furlong and Kpekwa the chances to play. The latter just been called up to the England u20 squad.
My team if everyone fit would be
    Smithies
    Onohua hall angella kpekwa
    Phillips Sandro faurlin Fer
    Chery
    Austin

This is from the LFW match report by Antii Heinola.

"I've seen a few grumblings on here about Toszer's performance yesterday, but I thought it was a marked improvement on his last two starts. He looked fitter, he got higher up the pitch and most importantly his passing was much cleaner and crisper. Didn't have many problems at all with him. What I particularly liked was his free kick delivery. Along with a couple of great corners from Phillips, our set pieces yesterday were the best I've seen in some time. We created at least three genuine opportunities, possibly four or even five, from free kicks and corners. Toszer's trio of teasers in the first half that forced two saves from Onuoha headers and saw one Angella effort go over were particularly good. Encouraging."

    I'll second that. Encouraging.

I'd currently pick the same personnel, if fit, but finesse it by making the formation 4-2-3-1. Both Chery and Phillips have a tendency to neglect their defensive duties and telling them they're playing 4-3-3 would be sending those two the wrong signal.

I'm surprised you pick Phillips, Col, after all your criticism of him. Historically, I've been one of his supporters but he's been AWOL most of this season and needs to put in a strong performance very soon.

Beth has alluded to it on other threads and I agree with her, Onouha is a problem player for us. People are understandably trying to accommodate him in the side due to him being Captain but the fact of the matter is that he's just not a good footballer.

He strikes me as a player who when he was a kid was picked up because of his athleticism rather than footballing ability (highlighting everything that is wrong with the English Scouting system).

We let a potentially reliable and natural RB in Michael Harriman go out on loan when he could have made the position his own, and I still think there's a good player in Perch (perhaps some time out of the firing line will do him some good).

We lack a real leader at CB, that person can't be Hill as I see his transition to our Defensive Coach as a positive move. Hopefully Grant Hall can continue to improve.

Don't envy Ramsey with these selection issues

    I agree with you.

I dislike playing players out of position and don't think playing Ned last Saturday as right back was much better than playing Perch. So we still have an issue problem at RB, as well as an overall defensive problem.

I personally am not sure what is our best central defensive partnership. We have tried Onuoha-Hall, Onuoha-Angella and now Hall-Angella. Today, I would probably go for Onuoha-Hall, but am not convinced, and am not sure that Chris knows. Surely we do not need to turn to Clint?

Perhaps it is not the players but we really need a better defensive coach? I think here may lies the root cause of the problem.

I have just watched both recent matches in full

Fulham Match … credit to Fulham … we looked very poor but the bollocks on here was all emotional. The entire team seemed to be laying off Fulham and they looked very good. I am certain we are showing too much composure at times and look a better team when we go direct … we are quick doing this but building up play looked lost to me … too slow and mistakes everywhere
Bolton … sums up what this league is like

Overall we aren't anywhere near a team yet but FFS there are some positive flashes.

I think it will take a lot longer until we gain the confidence we are pretending to play with at the moment … those poor passes will eventually turn into clear crisp ones and shut a few up on here .. or make them look at the game better.

Honestly we look to have some great players at QPR for this league.

Saw Henry give the ball away once in 180 minutes against Fulham and he was in position every time we lost the ball … The stuff on here is total rubbish and again just picking on a player. There were at least 5 worse players in each match

CR will know his best side very soon and Fer and Chery look great players

Currently QPR look fine and could even challenge with any of them if we keep in touch

I can only see us getting stronger

    Not too much different Col.

I think one of our problems is that we have three centre halves who need to play on the left side of the pair. That means that Onuoha would have to play in the middle & I would partner him with Hall.

Therefore Perch would have to play until we can get Harriman or Furlong back from loan.

My other change would be Luongo instead of Phillips.

Phillips frustrates the hell out of me and I don't think he'll ever really make it in the premier league, but I've always said that he should be effective at this level.
It was a toss up between him and Luongo but with Austin needing crosses I went for Phillips.

I have gone for best available - since we have got games coming up and are missing Charlie and Jamie it seems more appropriate, and everyone knows Charlie would be first choice up front anyway.

Firstly, Ned is never a right back - he just seems to be incapable of reading the game from there and relies on pace to get him out of trouble - it's not a comfortable prospect. On paper Hall/Ned and Angella do have the makings of a good 'any 2 from 3' CB pairing - I think they will come good. The (lack of a) right back situation is a conundrum, I thought Furlong looked pretty good previously despite the fact he was widely pilloried for the Palace debacle (not entirely his fault - SWP I'm looking at you), so for me it was odd that he went out on loan, but were he to come back I'd be happy to see him given another opportunity. Konchesky seems to have got over his early season jitters for us and arguably puts in more than a shift which gives us good cover/competition for LB when Yun is back fit.

Sandro, (though I will admit I was never that keen on him) by all accounts looked fit and able at the weekend, and given the maulings Henry gets every week on here perhaps a week off to lick his wounds would do him some good. As others have said Tőzsér offers us something at set pieces and is clearly a decent player (45 games in a promotion winning side says so) and will settle. Add to that Doughty, Henry and Alé as cover and it's difficult to see the reasons why we shouldn't be doing better in that department.

Fer, if he decides to put a shift in is a classy player and as backup I like the prospect of Luongo more central as a natural forward looking ball player if (when...) Fer can't generate the enthusiasm on a rainy Tuesday night up North. Chery is clearly a very talented player, though perhaps he and Phillips on the field together might be that extra bit of a luxury we can't afford given neither of them appears to have a defensive bone in their bodies - still if we can score more than the other team it's moot... etc. etc.

Up front we are not blessed with riches, but JET, though he has been much maligned by others appears to know where the goal is (2 in 3 in the league and 4 in 5 in league and cup) - hopefully his dead-eye form will give Polti something to think about and encourage him to up his game when he (eventually) gets on as a sub.

I think 4-2-3-1 should give us enough steel at the back, and with Tőzsér's ball playing/passing abilities there to make the transition from defence to attack we have a squad (on paper) to be there at the end.
