Dick said he'd only step aside if we had someone better. Do we have someone lined up then?

That was my theory! I feel that this has been on the cards for at least a few weeks and he has knowingly been keeping somebodies seat warm until a replacement was all but signed. After all, even if we were sitting in a champions league spot at present there would be a strong possibility that we would still have been keeping one eye on a replacement at around xmas anyway in preperation for getting somebody in at the end of the season (maybe 1 year was all Dick was willing to do no matter what). Maybe we were looking to replace Dick no matter how well we were going to do. Maybe from the beginning he understood that he could be replaced at the drop of a hat and was willing to accept those terms. It just so happens that we have had a shocking start and Dick has been replaced sooner than we had all hoped!

100% de Boer for me.

Ajax bred so belief in youth, used to adapting system to a constantly changing squad, natural born winner with massive pedigree and reach to the current generation of players who watched him play in CL.

Only candidate if I was Ellis.

He'd be great but why the **** would he come to us?? I'd hoy Philip Cocu's name in the hat as well but he's in exactly the same boat - no chance he would even give it a second's thought imo.

We'll be scraping the barrel, no doubt.

We need discipline at the club .. we need someone who will take these players by the balls and get them performing .. I say sit them all down on the pitch in a circle at half time and give them a jolly good dressing down ... I want Phil Brown !!

I don't think it's a case of who we want, more like which daft twat will take the job on. 6 managers in 4 years is shocking and smacks of an underlying problem within the club and you don't need to be Einstein to figure out what the problem is.

We've tried with proven successful managers, Martin and Dick (although without their sidekicks).

We've tried new promising managers, Gus, Roy and Paolo.

We've tried a good youth team coach, Ricky.

What's left to try?

Apart from Martin a while ago, none had premiership experience of managing.

Sam would be the obvious safe choice.

When somebody eventually does get it right we can really become an established premier side as everything else is in place providing we get some decent players in.

I think our current squad is better than our position would suggest and the new manager will do himself a lot of good by getting a perceived poor team half way up the league. January will be massive for us and we probably need a complete back four in, all a lot better than our current lot.

I wouldn't fancy a gamble on the likes of De Boer, Cocu, Dyche or Pearson. Safety and stability is what we need and only Sam will bring that.

Big Sam I reckon - someone who certainly won't take any **** of players

...and laugh in the face of adversity <cheers>

I`m not sure it matters.

By handing out new contracts, Short and his gang of boardroom idiots have made sure the new manager has the same rotten core to deal with that has got rid of the last five.

Well pissed off now me like.

Sam for me. Sunderland would be the first club since his Bolton days where the fans will give him credit for finishing mid-table.

It would also be worth it purely for the after match interview when we beat the mags at the end of the month.
