Isn't the outrage, if you can call it that, because Jose is perceived to have crossed the line with having a go at doctors for doing their job by the Hippocratic oath? I don't think many people genuinely thought there was a sexist element to it.

Quite right. The language used is secondary to the absolutely vital point that the ref decides when medics come on, not managers. He had no business getting angry with anyone and deserves criticism for it.
