I have difficulty blaming Clyne for anything. His contract was up, and tbf we do not pay our players that much. While he was here, he always played hard. He did not demand to leave.

If he truly wanted to go wherever (whether for the biggest payday or the club he liked best or wherever he would get playing time, etc.) the smart thing to do would have been to just play out his contract. I think he was willing to do this. Maybe he would have even re-signed, depending on how we did this season and what they offered.

But it was a risk Saints could not afford to take as we could have lost him for nothing. For his part, Clyne could have been injured. So Liverpool may not have been his first choice of clubs. But given the options he had to make a tough choice, as did Saints. And to me the decision probably ended up helping everyone.

Lallana was different because he WAS under an extended contract. He demanded to leave, specifically for Liverpool once he knew they were interested.

Anyway aside from whatever Saints-related grudges people might have I think Clyne and Lallana are both good players. The problem for them is 1) I don't think Rodgers knows what he is doing, and 2) Neither one of them are superstars. They are solid/average players for a Champions League side. Which means that due to random whim and/or spending sprees, their positions are not safe and they could be replaced at any time.

If it were me, I'd be happy enough with them. Clyne would start as IMO Liverpool has no one better (though that would be a spot where I'd strengthen if possible). Lallana has to duke it out with Coutinho and others but I wouldn't be throwing a fit if/when he plays as he's a solid role/rotation player at worst.

Lovren OTOH, has just been awful for them and they just need to get rid of him. Which pleases me very much.

Personally think Clyne is way better a prospect than Adam, and will prove to be the best RB in the country - if he isn't already - in seasons to come. Adam is what you say - solid/rotation at best.

Couldn't agree more. Clyne is class and was surprised that he was hauled off for one mistake. Presumably he had a bit of a niggle as well (?)

I know I'm taking this out of context, but what a ****ing mental game we love when our fans state tbf we do not pay our players very much.
